People from up North--do you really plug your cars in at night?

So all of you Southerners complaining about your rough winter can just STOP right now!
:rotfl::rotfl:

Just kidding, just kidding.

Okay, so she was not pulling my leg, LOL. I was just picturing all these cars with extension cords running from them. At the hotel we were at, I didn't see anywhere people could plug in a car. Of course, it only got down to 6 while we were there. All the natives were walking around without coats and all us visitors were bundled up in two coats, gloves, hats and still freezing, LOL. Of course, it was interesting that the students who almost didn't make it were from FL and GA, due to SNOW! LOL No delays at the Minneapolis airport though.

A friend had one in college. It made turning the car over easier and it was blowing heat much sooner.

We don't plug our cars in. We do love our garages.

When I lived in North Dakota & Minnesota having a plug for the engine block warmer was a necessity.

agnes!

Winnipeg here....

Not plugged in at night as it is in the garage. I do have a remote starter that I use all the time.
The car is plugged in at work during the day.

It's the block heater that gets plugged in.

Our last minivan was from Canada and I was wondering why it had a plug on it. :rotfl2:

That would have been helpful to know. DH and I grew up in FL, so I guess our ignorance is excusable. It's regularly well below 0 here, but I don't think we have any issues starting our vehicles. (Well, I don't usually go out in the winter but DH always manages to leave for work at 5:30. :upsidedow ) So, now you're telling me we should be plugging our cars in before we go to bed?

When I lived in Missoula (MT) the used car I bought had a plug in it and this Maryland girl was SO confused. :lmao: I don't think I ever actually used it though.

my husband uses one for his diesel truck in the winter here in Mass. Diesel trucks are hard to start in cold weather.

Same here. Only if he knows he has to use it though. Its not the every day car.

:worship::worship:Not complaining here in North Carolina :worship::worship:

We did have a diesel when I was growing up in MA that plugged in.

This thread reminds me of a radio commercial I heard today. A dealership was trying to push sales of 4wd trucks by saying that climate change is going to make every winter from now on as bad as this winter . :rotfl2: So you had better run to their dealership and buy a 4wd truck....good try.....it's NC, they would do better to talk about how good the truck would look covered in mud with a gun rack in the back window :lmao:

I live in Northern MN and it is a must on those frigid days(-20) . I lived in Missoula, MT too. It is the banana belt of MT. No need for a head bolt heater. I also lived 150 north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Everyone plugs in. I have a heated garage now. Moved way up in the world! Every once in awhile my car stays outside and it is plugged in. It is extremely hard on the engine to start in -20 degrees or colder so it is in the best interest of your investment to plug it in. Usually it is 10-15 times a winter that we need to plug in . The piles of snow are much more cumbersome. We are looking forward to Spring. Usually it arrives for the first time around St. Pat's Day. Winter usually returns for a couple of weeks and then is gone until November.

Heck i dont even live " up north"-i live in southern Colorado-and i was mad as heck when i found out i couldnt get an after market head bolt heater put in my diesel beetle-we have those below 0 days here and getting that thing started can be painful.
