People Arguing about WDW with you!!

My husband actually stops me now from giving out unsolicited info or correcting people. He tells me "nobody likes a know it all". Let me tell you it kills me to bite my tongue. So many people are just so misinformed, and we all know how much better their trips would be if they only knew.

I totally agree with your DH and while it is VERY hard, I usually manage to refrain or at least stick to, "I am just a little Disney obsessed so if you want any advice, feel free to call me anytime." Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't but here this friend was trying to get advice and this other lady kept contradicting me. I even conceeded that she may have been told she could not use FP, but that I have used it during stays that I have not been staying onsite. She just would NOT let it go. Oh well, at least I know my friend believed me and is planning to use it on her trip. :teacher:

I remember the first year fast pass was out, we constantly heard comments from the people in the regular line: how to get in the faster line, that the service cost extra, etc. My favorite was when people, normally a group of young teens, saw us walking up the line and jumped the chain and ran up only to find that they needed the fastpass to get in. My advice, don't tell anyone on how to use fastpass, unless you owe them money. The system is already too busy, and with any luck some of the guests may not return while we are there allowing us more elbow room and shorter lines.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Pretty tempting idea you have there, but the one I was telling has 4 kids under the age of 7 and I couldn't keep her in the dark!!

Well, I'm a bit of a Disney.Know.It.All (no smart remarks, please), and I have to bite my tongue now and then, but I've learned that, unless they actually ask me a question, people don't want to know the correct information. So I just nod and let their own ignorance (and arrogance) guide them.

Be well.

As a bit of a fanatic, :earboy2: I've come to realize that sometimes it just isn't worth it.
I know that I KNOW, but it usually isn't worth the effort :scratchin

Like trying to explain to a friend that it's NOT possible to have actually booked a room with "a view of the Savanna where the animals graze" at the.....
WILDERNESS LODGE!!! :rolleyes1

Who am I to argue? :ssst:
It's just less stress spreading the MAGIC to those that are
willing to BELIEVE :goodvibes ::yes::

The reason I come to these boards is because some people (okay, alot) just don't get it! It can be so exasperating!!! My family and I just went to Disney in Jan and then in Feb my dh suprised me for my birthday with a trip back for just the 2 of us in November. Well when talking about it with my MIL, she said "oh you just went to the parks don't you think you will be bored?" UMMM Hellllooooo! No! Of course she has never been so she has no idea about the magical experince she is missing. Oh well...Thank goodness there are others on this board to share with or else I would go crazy.

I'm sorry, but, I have to correct you, it is now called a "VIP pass" and you don't have to stand in line for any of the rides. You just simply show the CM your VIP pass that they give you for staying onsite and they wave you thru :confused3 ...LOL This is what my "know it all" sister in law was telling friends at a family gathering a few weeks ago :rotfl: Of course, I could not resist the urge and corrected her and started to explain to everyone how FP worked  Now, she keeps calling asking me to help her plan her upcoming trip to Disney, keep in mind this is my "evil" sister in law, who I would of loved to have seen making a fool of herself when she asked for her VIP pass at check in. :sad2: Maybe, I'm the "evil" one LOL :cool1:

and it makes me NUTS! My best friend wanted to take her husband for his birthday. Just 3 nights. I urged and urged her to stay on property, but she wouldn't listen. She kept saying, my hotel is only 3 miles from Disney. She paid like $139 a night. I told her she could stay at a moderate price hotel at Disney for the same $$, and I explained EMH, the transporation, the magic, etc etc.

Didn't listen.

Went down.

Stayed off-site.

hated it - said "we should have stayed on-site."

To your point, when people as us Worldphiles advice on Disney, we take it seriously. And, we know what we're talking about. The ones that listen reap the benefits and the ones who don't...well...they come back frustrated. If you're not going to believe me....don't ask me. You're wasting my valuable time.

OOPS...my Southern charm isn't showing here is it? Well, southern hospitality is a mile wide and an inch deep....

That's exactly how I felt last week when my neighbor was telling me that it's great to go to WDW with a baby because if you have a baby they let you go to the front of every line and ride as many times as you want. I just held my tongue. I can only think that they must have gone at a slow time and that they must have used baby swap. I just hope she doesn't go around telling people with babies to go to WDW because they can always go to the front of the line and ride over and over again!

Do you think she might have been confusing with the "front of the line" pass that you can get when you find a paintbrush at Tom Sawyer's Island? I've read about those several times...but from what I understand, only a couple of rides take them.

I have a very dear friend, who is also Disney obsessed! We stayed together at the Boardwalk last April, and I was simply AMAZED at the amount of misinformation she possessed!! She goes to WDW at least once every year, and I go every other year, but religiously keep track of Disney via these boards, the UG, etc. Well, we were holding fp's for Splash, and the time arrived when we could get a new one. She insisted that you had to USE the FP before you could get another one, and wouldn't believe me until I came back with a FP for Big Thunder. I also said to her "how does Disney know when you've actually USED the FP??" Well, light dawned on marblehead.....

She also refused to watch Wishes with us as it was just the "same old fireworks". Well, she learned differently when her granddaughter told her she missed the best fireworks show ever.

I kept my mouth shut this year however, when she told me she was going back for a week on July 6th, and thinks the crowds will be LIGHT, because she was able to use her DVC points at the Boardwalk. Heaven help her.....

Not to complicate matters, but I have a question. I've always stayed on site. However, sadly I had a gap in the mid 90's to 03 where I didn't visit. I don't remember when Disney moved over to the "credit card" type tickets for the parks. When fastpass was introduced, were all tickets changed over to the "credit card" type? If not, how were fastpasses issued as you have to put your card in?

See date at top: 1/6/03. Ok, so it says Fastpass is the new *guest* service - presumably that meant resort guests? Interesting!!
Nope just a service for "guests". We traveled to WDW in 2000 and we were able to take advantage of the "new" FastPass that wasn't available when we were there in 1998. Perhaps some misinformed Disney adv programming on that resort guest info but it clearly stated on the maps of the park that anyone could obtain a fast pass and it included which attractions used the system.

Nope, I kept asking her questions before I corrected her, she meant FP

I was talking to my friend and she was telling me what she planed on doing. She was like im not sure if we are going to Wild Kingdom. I was like WHAT?!?! I said Animal Kingdom she was ooo right. And everytime she said it she called it something different never Animal Kingdom. The I was talking to her dad and he said Wild Kingdom too! I was about to scream!!! :rotfl: He said someone at his job told him to go to Wild Kingdom they loved it!! I wanted to laugh so hard!! :rotfl:

Okay, this is my dh to a "T"! He is a big Disney lover and otherwise semi-knowledgeable about the World and would like to learn more, but he INSISTS on calling the WS countries by bizarre names such as "Little Norway", "Germantown", "Canada Land", etc. :earseek: He loves his little made-up names for them and refuses to call them by the proper terms! :rotfl:

Wow! I had made some pdf files back in 2003 about WDW - various info printed from Disney.co.uk - because that's when we were originally going. Out of curiousity I did a quick search of the pdfs (still have them on my hard disk) and look at this snippet below - I cut out the relevant bit. See date at top: 1/6/03. Ok, so it says Fastpass is the new *guest* service - presumably that meant resort guests? Interesting!!

Not to sound like a know-it-all....

A 'Guest' is what ANYONE who walks through the admission gates is. Its the same as saying The water fountains are for guest service. It means free for those who pay for park admission.

Even outside the world. Parking for Olive Garden guests only. Bathrooms for guests only.... you get the idea....

I understand the frustration though. My mom is always like 'Mission to Mars' and i have to bite my tongue. My parents just came back from MGM and i asked if they saw Fantasmic. And my mom said 'I have a high blood pressure, I cant ride that stuff!' I :rotfl2:

I explained what it was, and then she was dissapointed she'd missed it. Go figure. :sad2:

When I tell people about my Disney trips they always ask, Who do you know? How did you get that kind of treatment? And I just have to smile. Because it would take hours to give them a portion of all my disney knowledge. :teeth:

In a world with most every thing discovered it makes me happy to think i'm one of a few thousand people who know the deep secrets of my favorite place in the world. :flower:

Reminds me of a saying, "Those who think they know it all are annoying to those of us who do."

Perhaps she was remembering Front of The Line access for Universal theme parks for those staying at a Universal resort?

This must be what I was arguing with a doctor about the other day. He swore that he had to pay for tickets at WDW that let you go to the front of the line. I assumed he meant FastPasses b/c you sort-of go to the front of the line when you bypass all those in the stand-by line. I'll have to discuss this with the guy again next time I see him.

Or they mean the raccoons foraging in the trash bins.. :rotfl:
I guess that bad room that the DVCers always complain about at VWL that overlooks the garbage collection area is actually a 'savannah view'!

I went in Jan 2000. My day at the MK I used my old (94) pass. All the FP machines had Cast Members explaining to guests how the system worked. I'd show my pass and the CM would hit a button in back to dispense a FP (which meant I was able to get different FP tickets for the same time period).
