A friend from church is going to WDW next weekend, so the last time I saw her she was asking me about some tips. While I was explaining my personal how to tour MK with small children plan to her, I mentioned getting a fast pass for either Peter pan or Pooh and then riding the other one. Another woman chimes in, "Oh, but you have to be staying in a WDW resort to use that." I said, "Nope. It is for everyone." She asks when was the last time I was there and I told her last March. "WELL," she says, "They USED to be for only resort guests." So, I of course must ask her when she stayed there. Three years ago. Uhuh. "I was there three times that year. Never stayed onsite, used Fast Pass all the time."

She KEEPS arguing with me! Okay, does the fact that I live in MN and was in WDW three times in one year not indicate that I am just a little obsessed!?! And maybe that I know what I am talking about??? Ugh! She says that a CM (whom she called an employee so there ya go!!) told her that she couldn't use them if she was not onsite. I finally said, "You were given faulty information and there is an explanation of Fast Pass in the daily park guide."

The original info seeker, has called me twice and her husband ambushed me with questions when I saw him too to get more info, so at least they are not believing the crazed and very misinformed other Disney traveler. Yes, someone recognizes true genious when they see it. :rotfl:

I thought DHs family was bad when the would NOT listen to us, but this woman about pushed me over the edge.

I know what you mean. There was a woman I used to work with that was always giving out false information. It drove me nuts. One day, I overheard her talking about her favorite Disney villian, "Magnificent". I just started laughing. I didn't have the heart to break it to her that she was wrong.

I will verify that FastPasses were NEVER for resort guests only. I don't go as often as you (though I wish I could), but I was there when they tested the first FastPass, and have been there every other year since. I also have like every Birnbaum guide book since they came out, and I believe they all say they are open for anyone's use.

It's funny, to most people you know you are the Disney Guru. I hate it when people think they know something when they really don't.

Actually, I remember staying on site at WDW a few years ago (2000 maybe?) and one of those "Tips for Today" on the tv came on and said that the Fast Pass WAS for Disney Resort guests only. I remember this very well (as does my husband) because we were both confused as to why everyone was able to get one, even though many people weren't resort guests. So both of you are technically right. They DID advertise it as a resort guest thing...but it never actually worked that way...everyone could get one. However, it was just nonsensical for her to argue about it. She should simply be happy that anyone can get them.

I've had people try to tell me that you can only stay onsite if you book at pkg. I've also had people tell me that they booked the new MYW pkg for 1500.00 INCLUDING airfare! I give up arguing & just say "oh really? " LOL :rotfl:

Speaking of people who are "misinformed" about Disney. I was in a Disney Store once, and there was a costumer asking the sales associate questions about the Park Hopper Passes (this was like two years ago). The customer asked, "do these expire if I don't use them?" The sales assoc. replied, "Yes, they do." Thank god I was there to clarify things; the customer almost wasn't going to buy the tickets and go to Disney World. I even pointed out on the ticket where it says it doesn't expire.

Maybe they had the 3 day pkg ROFL :cool1:

Perhaps she was remembering Front of The Line access for Universal theme parks for those staying at a Universal resort?

I have to vent on this subject too...I work in an emergency room and one of our physicians (who loves Disney) said that he had booked a trip for his family. Knowing that I visit Disney as much as possible, he made a point to tell me that he was staying "on site at the new resort, Pop Culture". I told him he would really like it and that I had stayed there last summer. I also explained that it was actually Pop CENTURY and not Pop CULTURE. He said, "No, I'm pretty sure it's Pop Culture." I even pulled up the Disney website to show him, but he still stands firm that I am somehow wrong!
I don't act like I know all about Disney (although I am a freak about it!), but when you show actual proof, how can one continue to argue?!?!

I too, remember when the info "said" it was only for on site. That first year you could also use you wdw resort room key as well as your park ticket to get a fast pass which enabled you to hold two fast passes at the same time.

My own mother is my biggest source of grief. She went once with her lousy ex-husband who didn't know a thing about Disney (just one of the reasons he was lousy!) She still argues that the castle is 'completely empty'! She claims she walked all the way around and didn't see anywhere to go in.

She claims this was a major disappointment and won't go back with my family. I've even offered to pay.

I'll take pictures of her grandkids enjoying a meal at CRT but she'll still deny it.

Go figure.

I was talking to my friend and she was telling me what she planed on doing. She was like im not sure if we are going to Wild Kingdom. I was like WHAT?!?! I said Animal Kingdom she was ooo right. And everytime she said it she called it something different never Animal Kingdom. The I was talking to her dad and he said Wild Kingdom too! I was about to scream!!! :rotfl: He said someone at his job told him to go to Wild Kingdom they loved it!! I wanted to laugh so hard!! :rotfl:

My husband actually stops me now from giving out unsolicited info or correcting people. He tells me "nobody likes a know it all". Let me tell you it kills me to bite my tongue. So many people are just so misinformed, and we all know how much better their trips would be if they only knew.

Wow! I had made some pdf files back in 2003 about WDW - various info printed from Disney.co.uk - because that's when we were originally going. Out of curiousity I did a quick search of the pdfs (still have them on my hard disk) and look at this snippet below - I cut out the relevant bit. See date at top: 1/6/03. Ok, so it says Fastpass is the new *guest* service - presumably that meant resort guests? Interesting!!

Once in awhile I can keep arguing but the other person thinks I am agreeing with him. Until I ask a question and he tries to answer it and his argument falls apart. This is difficult so if I canot do that I usually stop talking and let him go his own way and face the consequences.

Nowadays I don't bother to correct people's mistakes when it is reasonably obvious what they mean. I would let them get away with "Pop Culture" or "Wild Kingdom".

SOmetimes if a person says something is so and he is wrong I say "Want to try it my way just once and see what happens?"

I knew someone who was staying at the Contemporary. Supposedly, her Mom was staying at CBR. They, of course, would not listen to any of my advise and came back complaining of heat, crowds, how they didn't get to see anything, etc. (they went in August). BUT...they said they couldn't believe how far CBR was from the Contemporary. I was a little confused, especially when they said they had to go all the way out to the highway to get there??? I asked if they were sure it was CBR, because you do NOT need to go to the highway to get there from CR. They swore it was, so I finally just told them "Well, either they weren't at CBR, or you were given VERY bad directions!" :rotfl:

Actually, just as all employees are 'Cast Members', all customers (even at The Disney Stores when the Company owned them) are 'Guests'. However, it could be confusing for people who do not know the terminology as used by Disney.

I believe, but don't quote me :) , that when Fast Pass originally came out it was for AP holders. That was in the late 90s

A little OT, but I was quoted a package last week for $1500 including airfare. Of course, it was only for me and DD6, for 6 nights at POP (with a Pin), with 3 day tickets, and dining plan. :rotfl:

I remember the first year fast pass was out, we constantly heard comments from the people in the regular line: how to get in the faster line, that the service cost extra, etc. My favorite was when people, normally a group of young teens, saw us walking up the line and jumped the chain and ran up only to find that they needed the fastpass to get in. My advice, don't tell anyone on how to use fastpass, unless you owe them money. The system is already too busy, and with any luck some of the guests may not return while we are there allowing us more elbow room and shorter lines.
