We got the Pentax Optio W30. We took it as our only camera on a trip earlier this week. We went out to New Braunfels, TX where we camped, rafted, and played at the Schlitterbahn. The camera held up well in and out of the water. It was tough getting used to a p&s, but we did OK.

The camera is my older sons, but we all shared it on on the trip. My younger son enjoyed playing with it as well, but he still hasn't mastered composition. He got several shots of people's stomaches because he aimed at the middle and assumed that it would get the entire person.

Here are a some sample shots. The pictures have been lightly processed with Lightroom. Most of the work was cropping and exposure adjustments. Just about all of the shots were taken on full auto.

The entire set of pictures for the weekend is at http://barbieri.smugmug.com/gallery/3013324#P-1-15

That's me:

and here i always told my kids to "watch out , don't step in that schlitterbahn!":lmao:
looks like fun and the photos turned out nicely as well

Nice shots! You got me longin for the Bahn! Hurricane Harbor here just does not cut it for me. Looking at getting something like the W30 mabe for DD. She wants one she can take into the pool now.

I just got a call from Satan, he was complaining that it was suddenly very cold down there. :)

Seriously, looks good - I think that as long as you stay in bright light (and in the water helps, too), you and your son will be very happy with the camera.

Yeah, I have the original WP. It saved my last Disney vacation (rained a ton). GREAT camera in the water, and bright sunlight.

It only had trouble with flash, low light, shutter lag, noise, etc.... :)

All said though, it's still my choice if I can only carry around 1 camera. It's just too versatile. It'll always capture the moment, if not very well...

Now my old Sony DCS-60u... 2MP, but a larger sensor. Even interpolated to 5MP, the images often looked better than my Pentax WP. And you got 1000 photos to a 512MB card. The flash died in that camera, otherwise I wouldn't have bought the Pentax. The Sony was just so much fun. Complete 1-handed operation.
