Thinking of buying a "Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro" for this years xmas trip to WDW, i have a Pentax K100D and obviously don't have the choice of other brands, what other lenses do other pentax users similar to the sigma one.
I also have a Pentax F1.4 50mm, the standard kit lens and a 50-200mm zoom, i feel this would be a good addition to my collection and possibly rule out the need to take the Zoom lens everywhere
Opinions very much appreciated

I personally would not go for that. If you want a better standard zoom, I suggest looking for something that is f/2.8 throughout the range. That lens is only going to have f/2.8 at the very widest end, where you are very unlikely to need it anyway. I do like the idea of having the extra 20mm, but consider that you do already have that range covered.

You have a choice of 16/17-50mm F2.8 lenses from Sigma, Tamron, and Pentax. The Pentax is the best but costs about 2x as much as the others. If you want a little more distance, the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 is a nice one. (Did I mention that I have one for sale? ;) )

Like Kevin says, you are going to give up some speed with the lens you mention, though you get a little more reach and it's probably a little smaller and lighter. I'm not sure how the optics are on that one though off the top of my head, I think it's gotten pretty good marks.
