Hello all! I have a very picky 2 year old when it comes to eating its almost impossible to get him to eat anything other than poptarts, mashed potatoes, or chicken. Does anyone give their kids pediasure? Do you find it helps?

I gave it to my daughter for about a year when she was 4 and then off and on until her teens. She was underweight and ate well, but just could not eat enough. My pediatrician had recommended it.

I am not sure what I think of pedisure, but I have had success juicing and making smoothies. I used protein powder in the smoothies with bananas strawberries ice and milk. You can put a lot of spinach in some juice if you cover it with some grapes or apples or a berry. I made popsicles with the juice too. I've made ice cream with yogurt. Just some ideas..

My almost 3 year old has gotten 1 pediasure before bed every night since she was 18 months. Her pediatrician says she doesn't need it, but I know how limited her diet is and it makes me feel better to know she is getting a variety of nutrients. She is consistently in the 80-85th % for height and weight so I think it helps. And except for sinus problems due to enlarged adenoids she is in perfect health.

My son has that too! Also has huge tonsils

I did something similar with my dd. I'd make high calorie but healthy smoothies and put them in ice pop molds. She'd eat them no problem.

I never did anything like pediasure. I think stuff like that has a lot of sugar and additives.

Chances are if you child is 'picky' they will not drink Pedisure. Supplement shakes often have a metallic taste and a weird texture. My nephew is picky (texture, smell expecially) and has been since he was a your son's age. He never would touch the any of those type of drinks.

His mom even tried plain old milk shakes. No go.

Fact is that he's almost 17, and elite athlete and still picky and has a limited diet. He is cut like a male model, fast, has uncanny periphial vision, and can jump higher than guys a foot taller than him. He is only 5"8 but my dad didn't top 6 ft till he was 20 and the doctor says he still has room between his growth plates so will grow more. Unless your doctor says there's a problem, just let him be.

You should ask your pediatrician what they think. Maybe adding in a kids chewable multivitamin will be enough.

My uber-picky DS8 would drink Pediasure without complaint. We also had success with regular Ensure and another drink called Boost which is a bit cheaper. Walmart has their own brand of those drinks as well which are even less expensive. I used to give him to them on a daily basis, but now he's at the 10th percentile for weight I don't do it. He was WAY below the charts before.

My son who is 19 now used to drink it. He has been picky since he was a baby. He had reflux very bad and I think that due to that he doesn't like anything that burns his throat ie. speghetti sauce, pizza sauce, etc. He never ate what normal kids eat and still doesn't.

My younger son drank chocolate milk mixed with Carnation instant breakfast for years. He ate next to nothing, and this is what his pediatrician recommended.

He is now 16 and still eats next to nothing. He may always be that way.
