My son hardly eats since he is on ADHD meds. The doctor says his weight and height are fine, but he looks like a skeleton to me. I can see his little ribs in his back and stomach and all his bones stick out. He used to be a little chubb ball. It's like he is growing a little taller, but gaining no weight at all. I am going to try Pediasure and see if that will help him gain a little weight. It's expensive though! I can't find any coupons and it's almost $2 a bottle. Does anyone know who carries it at the cheapest price? TIA :)

the generic brands?

DS (10) had ADD as well and maybe weighs 60lbs soaking wet. We took him off his meds for the summer to see if his appetite would improve. Overall I would say it has. Is this an option for you? I know that he definately needs them at school, no question.

HTH and good luck.

I haven't looked into the generic, I'll check on those at the store tomorrow. Thanks!

I'm conflicted on taking him off the meds because he is going to do some library programs and a recreation program and the meds do help him pay attention better. Maybe I should take him off and see if he gains some weight. When you took your DS off the meds, was it gradual? or did you just stop one day?

I just bought a box of 24 bottles with resealable lids for $35 at Sams today (about $1.46/bottle).

Thanks! :) I belong to Sam's and was wondering if they sold it there.

We just stopped giving them to him one day. I can tell a difference in his behavior but not enough to warrant putting him back since I see an appetite difference. I have tried pediasure etc and he won't drink it. I wish he would. I must say that I won't either. I do know alot of people who do. We must just be picky. LOL

This was the first time I bought it for my DD (almost 2) and she really liked it. But, I was concerned that the second ingredient on the list is sugar. I was trying to justify giving her more sugar over the fact that she won't eat veggies at dinner?

Actually, she prefers to drink things over eating them. She'd drink juice and milk all day if I let her. And I can't find any favorite foods that I can fall back on - one day she'll eat something and the next she'll throw it on the floor. She will go for days picking at her food and then fill up all at once at a meal.

my ds (9) has adhd and is also a skinny guy (but i attribute it to his metabolism as well).

he's on a "medication vacation" for the summer as well. his appetite has exploded but he still does'nt put on much weight. we've talked to his doctors about this and all of us have come to the conclusion that it's kind of a "no-win" situation. if he's on the meds he does'nt eat as much, but if he's off he's so active he burns everything he eats right off. so, the doctors say to just make sure he's getting a good nutritional balance that maintains his health.

i try to keep stuff on hand that he likes (year round) that are high in calories but low in sugars and "bad" fats (don't want to ruin his teeth or set him up for health problems down the road). fortunatly there are some things he loves to eat that provide alot of good nutrients (he is a mexican food junkie, so we keep tortillas, refried beans and cheese on hand along with olives and tortilla chips, he loves pasta so i keep some of the non sugary brands of canned stuff-spag and meatball, ravioli...). one thing i think has helped in expanding his tastes has been having him do hot lunch at school-if he fails to eat it he goes without, and in eating it he's found that there are alot of foods he "knew" he would hate that in actuality he realy loves (mostly in the veggie categories).

I didn't give him the meds today. I didn't notice if he ate more (yet), but I'm sure it will eventually happen. His behavior isn't really bad or out of control (other than normal kid stuff), he takes the meds more for ADD (can't pay attention). I did find generic Pediasure at Target, it was $7.69 for a 6 pack so I bought strawberry and vanilla. I did notice the sugar in it, and I'm not crazy about that at all, but we'll see how he does with it. He will drink anything so I know he'll like it! I have some chilling and then we'll try it!

I had him step on the scale today and he lost 2.5lbs. He was 52.5 last month and now he's 50. His clothes are falling off of him so I went and bought new shorts today and now watch he'll pudge right up LOL.

Thanks for all of the replies, I appreciate it :)
