We are entering the second fall/winter in the house we currently live in. One neat feature has been the two large pecan trees in the back yard. They give great shade in the summer, and last year carpeted the yard with pecans beginning in early November. This year zip... zero... nada... no pecans at all, not even any nuts budding on the trees. :confused3 :confused3 Do pecan trees take a year off? Did something happen to these seemingly healthy trees?

A couple of things could be going on. First Pecan trees need other pecan trees to pollinate and actually grow the pecans. If any other tree near you was cut down in the last year it could affect your crop. Secondly as pecan trees mature they sometimes stop producing pecans. I have also heard that certain inscects can harm your trees and keep them from producing. Cheak with your local garden center and see if there has been a problem this year and they may recommend a treatment for your tree. It won't help this year but could get them in shape for next year.
