Pearl jewelry in Japan

We did Pearl jewelry making at DTD. We just bought the pearl and the thing to set it in....and got a much cheaper chain back here at home! It's so much fun pciking which oyster you want and then seeing what pearl is in it and everything!

Also, I had to pay more for a bigger cage to put the pearl in because my pearl was a big one.

Oh you braggart - I am jealous! ;) (just teasing!)
I will most likely somehow pick the SMALLEST pearl and will be forced to BANG THE GONG for others that come after me!

The jewelry sounds (and looks) so pretty. Someone had posted a picture of a ring but I couldn't find it.

I wish someone could definitively say the oysters are already dead and preserved vs. live cause I just can't bring myself to do this! Dork I am

Too bad kj2mom about losing the pearl!

I do this on every trip and have never had any problems. I have silver "cage" pendants with my pearl inside, goldtone "cage" with pearl inside, etc...Last trip I got "twins"! They were almost perfectly the same size so I had pierced earrings made and chose 14 kt posts because I'm very sensitive to metals when it comes to earrings. I wear them often and love them. You can choose your setting from very inexpensive to finer metals, etc...This year I'm hoping for either a black pearl or one that will be suitable for a ring. Good luck!

My boyfriend and I did this in DTD about 3 weeks ago. He picked a 6.5 mm BLUE pearl which I had set in a very simply white gold ring for myself. I picked a 7.5 mm PINK pearl that we had set in a dolphin pendant (no chain) for his mother. The pearls only cost $15 each... total cost $351!!!! I almost died. That's a lot of money when I was expecting to pay $30 for a couple of pearls! And I had to ask OVER AND OVER AND OVER for a SIMPLE, INEXPENSIVE ring. Granted, I LOVE it now, but I was not expecting it to be that expensive. On top of it, the woman drilled the pearls before I knew what was going on so we had to have them set there.

The good news is that she did explain how they were preserved and made sure we were aware that they were dead.

Now, I am NOT complaining about my experience (because I have a beautiful ring to remember my first trip) but I would suggest going to the one in Japan because it sounds MUCH less expensive!

I know there is one in DTD. One near Y and B Club and one in the Japan Pavillion in EPCOT. Are there others? Are they owned by the same companies or are they owned by Disney World.

I picked 2 oysters in July. (DH picked the first one and I picked the second one). Both pearls were the same size. One was "pink" and the other was "champagne". I had them set in 14K gold post earrings. They put the earings in cotton in a box.

I had read about this before we went and the advice I remember best was to pick the ugliest oysters. The ugliest oysters supposedly have the prettiest pearls.

I was thinking in doing this on my upcoming trip! Do they have settings that looks like Disney (Mickey ears, Tinkerbelle etc...) I want to have something unique, that reminds me of Disney... anyone remember seing this?

Thanks for ther pictures. I think the cage is great!!!! I'll take a chain with me.

Does anyone happen to have a picture of a ring setting??? I told my DH that I want to buy one this year while we are there and we can just use that as my Christmas present. He loved the idea since it would involve NO SHOPPING on his part. :rotfl: I'm thinking sterling silver because I wear a lot of silver especially to work.

They have the Mickey head ears cage one on the Disney Cruise it comes in a boxed set with the oyster in a can. I have been trying to find out if they have this at WDW but haven't found an answer yet.

The only difference is that the {} will be [] instead.

Does that help???

I think so...I'll try it when I get home...

Just got back and did our usual pearl trip. I got a twin set of while pearls from one oyster 6mm, a cream colored 7mm and a pink 8mm! I had the twins set in a pair of studs and the 7mm set into a necklace for my daughter w/her birthstone. We always have so much fun doing this! unfortunately, the candy lady was focused on just two people in the crowd! they were two guys and they got 5 pieces of candy which really made the crowd upset! we even got there early and stood in the front but no luck! ah well...maybe next time. Helen

Thank you "worlddreamer" for the info on the oysters. Now I can get excited about doing this. Keep thinking "BIG PEARL ... BIG PEARL ... BIG PEARL" - ha ha like that will help! :teeth:

I will just HAVE to concentrate on jewelry since we are flying and I won't have room for larger, less expensive souvies ... :rolleyes1 (DH easily convinced!)

Wow ... my trip is getting so close!
