Our three year old has a pretty severe peanut allergy. (We carry an epi-pen) How much "risk" are we taking at WDW?? We've made sure to put it on all of our reservations for dining but just in general, is Disney clean-will we find peanut shells or anything laying around?

Thanks!

My daughter is severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, and we've never had a problem at WDW. I've never seen peanut shells on the ground or anything like that, and the restaurants are very cooperative. Of course, there's always the possibility of someone bringing in peanuts, but overall, I think you are as safe (or safer) than you are anywhere else.

My son is highly allergic to peanuts as well. We've been to WDW several times and have never seen peanut shells. Be sure to tell the waitress at the restaurant about your food allergy. The chef will come out to speak with you and tell you what is safe.:thumbsup2

Also, just FYI, when we were in Animal Kingdom we purchased a chocolate covered banana. I read the ingredients twice and so did DH. Problem - the color of the print was brown, the same color as the chocolate. So before I let my son have the treat, I read it again, and lo and behold on the very bottom was a warning, may contain peanuts - in EXTREMELY small lettering. Thank goodnes he didn't eat it. I brought it to the attention of guest relations to let them know I thought it was a problem. So beware. You really have to check the packaged products.

One thing you should watch for are people who have brought their own lunch into the parks or resorts. P&J is popular. Sometimes they don't wipe their mess.:rolleyes1

Just like at home, you have to always be alert. Enjoy your vacation.

My DD also is severely allergic to peanuts and we just got back on Saturday from our 3rd trip in the last 3 years. I have to say I feel so safe w/ her at Disney. Every restaurant we went to, the chefs met us personally and reviewed the entire menu/buffet with us to make sure we knew what was safe.
One day we ate at Tusker house in AK and the chef made my DD a huge platter of grilled cheese and tater tots, (items not on the buffet!)then brought out 2 packs of Divvies choc chip cookies for her to have for dessert! They really do go above and beyond to make sure your child is safe.
I would also strongly recommend emailing Brenda Bennett. She works for Disney Food Services and I had contacted her before our trip. Within 24 hours, we received an email back from her w/ 5 attachments of lists of foods/snacks and what their potential allergenic content was. It was way more info than I could have ever dreamed of. You can find Brenda's email address here on the DIS boards.
Have a great trip and I think you can feel confident that your child will have fun and most importantly be Safe!!

Maybe I'm just tired, but I've searched the site and can't find the email address for Brenda Bennett. Could you please point me in the right direction.:flower3:

I generally feel pretty safe at WDW but I do avoid places that serve lots of nut dishes and asian food. The biggest problem I had on our recent trip is that most of CS places have switched to multigrain buns, breads, pizza crust that are not considered nut safe due to flax and sunflower seeds. This made life incredibly difficult for me to eat CS. I could pretty much have a bun less burger or wait to get back to my resort CS where they had a safe bread I could eat and have a sandwich. Previous years I had 3 or 4 good choices. I do have multiple allergies so I couldn't use the gluten free buns or pizza they carry at one place in each park. I did eat lots of divvies stuff which was great. Tusker House was great about having soem nut safe doughnuts and other things I normally can't have.
