Does anyone know if I can get a nut safe cake for my DD's birthday dinner at Narcoosees? I've looked through some of the cake thread and didn't see any info, but I may have missed it. Usually she has sorbet or skips dessert, but it is her celebration and i'd love to surprise her. Thanks in advance.

I have tree nut allergies... I do not have peanut allergies...

On a cake the most likely suspect for tree nuts is chocolate frosting... Some chocolates have hazelnut. Also Marzipan (almonds).... (All colors flavors)

And German Chocolate Cake is full of nuts...

I will not eat at Pancake house because the serve nutella which is hazelnut... Even if they promised me it would be too risky...

I think the safest bet would be a vanilla cupcake with Vanilla icing. I am sure they would let you bring your own in...

Or if you call in advance they might be able to provide something...

definitely call in advance, they will have one of the bakeries hook you up with something that is allergen friendly

My DD also has a peanut allergy. Before our trip, I emailed Disney and they provided some guidance and noted the allergy on all of our reservations. Basically, if the cake comes from the Disney central bakery, they cannot guarantee it will not have cross contamination. So, most of the bakery items were off limits for us. However, some restaurants make their own desserts and they are usually peanut free. Bottom line is that you have to contact Disney about each specific restaurant.

We have been to the world many times, and my DD has eaten everwhere and been safe. We always make her allergies known. We joke that every chef in WDW knows her. Chef Dick at the Poly has even whipped up treats for her. I know that most baked goods are not safe, but was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that I could get a cake. I was thinking that with all of the nut allergies out there, maybe nf cakes were available. Thanks

Have you contacted Special Diets about a cake? They have allergy cakes though I've never tried them.

Just how severe is the allergy? Babycakes at DTD won't guarantee nut free but they don't use any nuts. Depending on the severity of the allergy and which tree nuts are of concern, they may be ok. From their website:
We do not bake with nuts* or soy; however, all of our gluten free flours are processed on equipment that packages hazelnut, almond flours and soy. They power wash the machinery and discard the initial 30 pounds of flour between runs.

* NOTE: It has recently been called to our attention that the FDA now categorizes coconut as a treenut. For this reason, BabyCakes NYC cannot claim to bake without treenuts as coconut oil is an essential part of our products. This is the only nut with which we bake.

Thanks so much for the Babycakes info. I had planned to contact special diets soon. I have to email the GF IPO this week too. Her allergy is very severe, but Babycakes sounds like a good option.

WDW does stock a frozen allergy safe cake that you can have BUT they can't add decorations or personalize it. The cake is also gluten free so it may not taste great but it's a cake. If you don't really care about it being a cake but just want her to have a nice special dessert if you contact the chef they should be able to have something better than sorbet. I'm also nut allergic and often end up with creme brulee but a number of places make the chocolate cakes with the liquid center and those have been nut free as the only chocolate was coccoa powder which was safe and the rest was basic things like eggs, butter, etc.

Not a cake, but my peanut and tree nut allergic DD had the "Make your own S'mores" dessert at Narcoossee's. The only thing was the chocolate bars they had weren't safe, so they used Hershey's syrup on hers instead. She said they still tasted great!

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.
