Can anyone recommend one for me? Recently found out my DD has an allergy (peanut only) and we always bring granola bars on trips with us! Any recommendations? Thank you!

I, too have a peanut allergy but also have many other allergies as well. The only granola/energy bar that I can have due to all my allergies is "Zing Bars"- the chocolate coconut flavor. These have a high amount of protein in them (mostly from almond) but are free of peanut, wheat, dairy and soy. They are also sweetened with agave instead of sugar for a low glycemic index. They run about $2.50 a bar but can replace a small meal. You can search for them online if you are interested. I'm sure you will have many other options with having only a peanut allergy but I still thought I'd share! :)

Quaker has some school safe ones that are free of the major allergens including nuts. I got them in target right next to the regular granola bars.

I didn't know that about Quaker! One of my boys is ana to tree nuts and peanuts (and garlic) while the other is ana to dairy and tree nuts & is allergic to eggs and a ton of other stuff. I wonder if they can have them.

I've always found the taste of granola bars to be very hit or miss.

The great thing about peanut allergies is that it is one of the top 8 in the USA and every packaged food product MUST be labeled as containing peanuts in bold lettering.

I would recommend going to the grocery store and letting your kid pick out 3-5 varieties of granola bars that sound appetizing and that you have checked to be peanut-free.

Take them home and have a family taste test. If possible, only take granola bars that are peanut-free so that if you are down to one, your peanut-free kid can have it. This also makes the food allergy experience more fun and inclusive for the whole family. You can even get creative and make judging forms for the event with mickey-shaped ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

From my experience, a peanut allergy is the most easily accommodated at WDW. Even the Mickey Bars are peanut-free!

I thought all Quaker bars in the US had a may contain warning? It might not be too much of an issue depending on severity....but I know that they at least used to have either a may contain or a made in the same facility warning. I can't eat them now because of other allergens so I Haven't looked at the labels in about a year.

The Quaker bars made in Canad pa are peanut free because they are made in a separate facility than the nut containing ones (at least they used to be).

There's a website called peanutfreeplanet.com which has a huge variety of peanut/tree nut safe foods that you can order. A lot of things are free of the other allergens as well. A good portion of their products come from Canada. We've ordered from them once with good results.

Granola bars are one of the hardest things to find if you have to avoid things made in the same facility or made on the same line with nuts because so many granola bars have nuts in them for protein.

If that's still the case then my boys can't have them either. We never bothered looking since the (very) few we once saw that were totally nut free had dairy and my older son is ana to dairy. :sad1:

We order Tanabar peanut and nut-free granola bars from Vermont Nut Free. They are pretty good; not overly sweet. I think they come in two flavors -- chocolate chip and something else, maybe cinnamon raisin.

Enjoy life foods makes a big variety of snack bars that are top 8 free.

Those were the ones I was going to suggest as well. They have a new line out too which is even better than their current offerings. I love the smores and sunbutter bars and my daughter loves the cinnamon bun bars. My kids do like their cocoa loco bars (older line) too

Cascadian Farm makes great granola bars and some are peanut free. Chocolate chip is our favorite. I havent found much else (locally) that is granola and peanut free.

I would make them myself at home - then you know exactly what they contain, and they're lots cheaper too. There are many recipes that are very easy to follow and make several bars.

We tried these a couple weeks ago. They were pretty good. My pn/tn allergic kids were thrilled to get granola bars at the store rather than having to order online. I've only seen them at Target so far.

Many schools are peanut-free, so it's nice Quaker clearly labels the package. My kids' school isn't peanut-free, but many parents of classmates who don't have allergies want to make sure treats are safe for everyone. I've had about a dozen parents express confusion about food labels. Most have brought something they were sure was safe, only to find they hadn't noticed the "May contain" warning or caught a nut word in the long list of ingredients. Most manufacturers are good at highlighting allergens, while others don't bother, making it important to read through the entire list of ingredients. There's no legal requirement to bold any allergens, just disclose them in plain language on the package.
