Now into the mind of a worrier and overplanner!!!! - Are PB&J sandwiches made fresh or premade? DD likes PB, but not PB&J. For that matter, are all counter services sandwiches premade??

I've never ordered any, but from reading others TR's, I think all the PB&J sandwhiches are the Uncrustables...?

Yes they are the uncrustables and I also think for the kids meals they are $6.00 which to me that seems just a little to expensive for a PB&J sandwhich.:scared:

Forgive my ignorance, what is/are Uncrustables??? I haven't heard this term before/not used in Australia.

Uncrustables are kinda like pocket sandwiches. It has the PB&J filling inside, and the crust is cut off fringed so it's harder to get your filling all over the place. They aren't different from regular sandwiches at all, but I think they're kinda fun. :goodvibes (Though not necessarily worth $6) Here's what they look like: Uncrustables

A uncrustable is a premade pb&j sandwhich in the shape of a circle with the crust cut off. You by them in the freezer section they only take a couple of hours to thaw out. Perfect to take into the DL for snacks.

Thanks both Actionvaughn and Pixiedust. I just showed DD and she's not so sure about them. I think I'll start looking at other options.

The Carnation Cafe has a kids meal that is a painters pallet, basically a build your own peanut butter sandwich. It is really cute and the kid can design and eat their creation. It is a basic peanut butter sandwich and they can add marshmallows, raisins jam and maybe something else I am forgetting. It is served on what looks like a painters pallet with the options in little dishes. My son used to love them.

I personally love the food there! I always make at least one PS every trip we take!

Good idea. They are chock full of high fructose corn syrup, which is just ridiculously unhealthy. We found out they had the HFCS as I read the ingredients as DS started revving up in his nasty dragon-like reaction to HFCS after eating half of one in DCA...gack.

In my "other countries are healthier" state of mind, I can't quite imagine you are used to the use of HFCS in Australia, so it's best to stay far far away.

In my opinion. :)

As a label reader, I don't think I've seen any HFCS on any product. In Australia rather than an abundance of corn hence HFCS, we rely primarily on straight sugar. Having said that, I try to avoid as many additives as possible for DD who is sensitive to many other foods.

I read the ingredients in the Uncrustable - I don't think I would of let DD have it anyway. As a comparison my local bread shop has no 282, vinegar, or other additivie or preservative, just flour, water, yeast, and a couple of other basics. My PB has only peanuts!

Thanks Cirquelovers - I'll investigate further.

That's it, I'm moving to Australia! :)

Dh just noticed the other day, when I was sick and he was shopping, that even the "normal" vanilla extracts had corn syrup in them. He got the high end organic extract instead, b/c even normal corn syrup triggers my boy (sigh).

I'm glad you asked ahead of time so you wouldn't have to experience what your girl might react to while there! OK that sentence made noooo sense.:upsidedow

Since I virtually eat nothing(except for very special occasions( except protein and very complex carbs and very little of those) where you are getting you HFCS information. I just looked at a high end vanilla bottle and there is no where it states it has HFCS.
I would appreciate where you are obtaining this info so I may use it.

Thanks,

Jack

I said he got the high end to avoid the additive. :) He was reading labels to make sure he got pure v. extract rather than artificial, and noticed the (just) corn syrup (not hfcs) that was in the middle and lower end ones (including the one I picked up for Thanksgiving b/c it was cheap and quick, McCormick's brand, oops) and one of Safeway's higher end brands he said, but corn syrup does the same thing to my son and husband as HFCS does...they turn DS into a dragon who would likely be diagnosed with behavioural disorders by those witnessing a reaction, and cause DH to fall asleep almost immediately, which we only recently realized. Corn syrup solids do it, too, to DS, which means that dole whips are out, b/c that's what they have in them (looked up the ingredients in September after he ate part of one and spent the next hour trying to run in circles in Adventureland and going nuts when I finally caught him and tried to gently restrain him from hurting himself, me, or others...ugh. No loss to me, I don't like dole whips, but he did!

Meanwhile, I, queen of reactions to everything, can eat HFCS and corn syrup with abandon, with only weight gain as a reaction. :confused3
