Just thought I would weigh in on our recent experiences- some out there may be wondering/worrying...

We just returned from a great trip and had EXCELLENT experiences with everyone respecting my son's peanut (only) allergy.

We ate at various places, but everyone was understanding and accomodating. The following deserve a special mention:
- Bubba Gump, John's Pass - we called ahead to make sure they could accomodate us. Server had a print out of all meals, possible peanut issues etc. He could eat anything except 2 desserts. Kid's jello dessert prepared elsewhere, so I let him eat it . No problems.
- McDonald's drive thru ! Mentioned the allergy, very understanding. Server's daughter has it as well and no issues. (McDonald's here is usually fine too, just being over careful)
- Sci Fi Dine in (DHS) - WOW WOW WOW the chef came out (as usual) but spent SO much time and was SO thoughtful, I was overwhelmed. Very great service too.
- Port Orleans Riverside ( had Divvies put aside for kid's desserts, no problems)
- Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's and Ohana- Chef met us first thing (!), very thoughtful and very accomodating.

My son had his belly full and we felt very safe.:grouphug:

Just a follow-up on my note a few weeks ago re: the Tampa Bay Rays game- we followed some very sage advice from this board and put long pants and socks on my son due to the common presence of peanut shells. I wiped his chair handles and he had no issues, even though behind us a guy was eating peanuts and dropping the shells everywhere. (Side rant: WHY WHY WHY do people think this is OK !? ) I washed all our clothes after and he had no problems.:cloud9:

Thanks to everyone who has posted experiences and advice in the past. Now if I could only find safe ice cream for DS at DTD (now that McDonald's is closed) so I could get me some Ghiradelli's without guilt!!:wizard:

Glad you had a great experience! both of my boys have peanut/tree nut allegies. At the table restuarants, the chef always came out and spoke with us. They were always very thorough and my kids always left full as well. At the counter service places people were also understanding and helpful.

We are going again in August. There are a few different places we want to go to. I sent an email to the special dietary needs group and actually had a restaurant manager call me the other day! I can't say enough good things about Disney when it comes to making sure dietary needs are met.

Thanks! We'll be there in 2 days with our peanut-allergic (only food allergy, too) child.

Were Divvies hard to come by? I see you mentioned that you got them at POR (we're staying at POFQ), but what about at the parks? Thanks.

Here's what I got from Special Diets less than a month ago about locations for Divvies cookies. They stated that these locations will have Divvies or else French Meadow brownies or French Meadow chocolate chip cookies (I think French Meadows only stated peanut free, not tree nut free though; I don't see any obvious tree nuts but my daughter's not anaphylactic to them but chefs brought them to her when we said hazelnut and brazil nut allergies ).
Magic Kingdom – The Main Street Bakery
Epcot – Liberty Inn & Electric Umbrella
Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Starring Rolls Bakery
Animal Kingdom – Kusafari Bakery & Tusker House Restaurant

You can also find Enjoy Life cookies at a variety of places (made in peanut and tree nut free facility; they specialize in allergy safe foods).
Magic Kingdom – The Main Street Bakery
Epcot – only TS locations unfortunately
Disney’s Hollywood Studios – All quick service locations
Animal Kingdom – All quick service locations

I'm so glad to hear you had a positive experience. We are going for our 1st trip on Wed. I have all the table service meals done and sent in the paperwork. But can you share where you get the list of the allergy free foods that are served in the parks and the locations? I would really appreciate this info.:cheer2:

I am glad your experience was good! :thumbsup2

We have been to WDW and on DCL many, many times because they are so great in dealing with allergies. :):cloud9My 2 DS are allergic to ALL nuts & annatto.

We did DL & DCA resently and they were 'okay' about food allergies, but not as good as WDW or DCL. My poor son was celebrating his 12 birthday and there was not a safe dessert for him. :sad2: Very disappointing after all our great trips to WDW & DCL.

The Special Diets department should have sent you an email with all sorts of attachements when they sent you the form to fill out. The info about what can be found where is in those attachments. I go through the attachments and come up with a single page that summerizes what treats I can get where at each park. I don't want to have to go searching everywhere to find something safe for my kids; I want to know that they'll have something when I walk in and this works well for us.
