We are staying with our 6 and 7 yr old daughters at the Peabody Orlando oct 5-12. Does anyone have any advice for us? Since my dh is there for conference I will likely be taking a shuttle to the parks most days with the kids. Any info to make our experience run smoothly is appreciated.

I recently stayed there for a night. It's a very nice hotel, although very big and VERY busy. Rooms are nice, several decent onsite dining options. I didn't take the shuttle to Disney, so I can't comment on that. However, the hotel's location on International Drive and right next to the convention center means there is a LOT of traffic around it -- I imagine the shuttles to Disney probably take a while, so plan in plenty of time for travel back and forth.

Definitely ask on the Orlando hotels forum, too -- I'm sure someone there will have more insight.

We are going in June along with stepdaughter, SIL and her family...trip was planned around son in law as he is attending a conference at the Gaylord Palms. Instead of staying there we are all staying at Port Orleans French Quarter and he is renting a car and will drive back and forth each day to the conference. I have no idea what your conference room rate is at the Peabody, but would assume that a moderate resort at Disney would probably be a comparable room rate, especially if you can get a discounted rate such as AAA or room discount if/when they are announced.

You asked for advice...SO...Just a thought that if his company will allow him to stay elsewhere, you should consider staying on site at Disney, as this would be much easier for you managing two young children by yourself in the parks...especially if you want/need to come and go back to the resort during the day. While I love the ease and convenience of the Disney bus system, taking shuttles back and forth from off site resorts is not the same.

We were there in Oct 2009 for 3 nights. DH's company took the entire company and spouses (or one guest depending on status). They paid for 2 nights, we paid for 1 more. We didn't go to WDW during that time (we went that week after we checked out), but the company took us to Universal one evening. You can walk to quite a few places on International Drive. The road is busy, but there are lights and crosswalks. Watch the ducks at the hotel march in or out at least once.
