Okay...the scoop..

37, with PCOS, overweight by 80lbs, insulin resistant.

I still hope to have a baby (still sorting out the cycles after a pre-cancer scare in January). I get my thyroid checked every couple of months due to a tumor (non-cancerous) that they are watching -- docs say I am not hypothyroid.

That said, sometimes I feel like I switch from hypothyroid to hyper. Usually I am freezing....then for a week a month or so I start having 'personal tropical vacations' every night between 10 and midnight (usually only last an hour -- if that).

I'm just petrified that I'm heading into peri-menopause already *sigh* But since my hormones are screwed up due to the insulin resistance & PCOS, I have no way of knowing if the symptoms are due to PCOS or Peri-menopause.

Is there any test for this? Anyone have any similar experiences with PCOS?

I'm kind of hoping that it isn't too late for a baby *sob* I did miscarry in January -- so I at least got pregnant once -- hopefully I can do it again :)

I don't have any knowledge to share on this topic, but wanted to wish you the best of luck in figuring out what's going on, and hopefully one day will meet your goal!

I have been told there is a test to see if you are in a stage of menopause. I'm going to be 37 in 2 months and I'm getting major hot flashes as well as, my last cycle lasted 11 days when it's normally 4. So I'm calling my dr. tomorrow to schedule an appt. They say a good rule of thumb is to go by your mothers age when she went into menopause, but she left when I was 8, so I have nothing to go on.

Oh, and I do have hypothyroidism, but not enough to have to have any treatment for it. They just did the test last winter, I believe and my dr. wasn't concerned, so I don't even think about it.

It's all hormones, even one level being "off" and the whole cycle goes haywire.

does your doctor have you on metformin/glucophage for the PCOS? I also have pcos and we tried for 6 months to get pregnant with DD, my OB tested all my levels and put me on the lowest dosage of metformin for insulin resistance and we got pregnant the first month! I also wanted to add that I also have hypothyroidism and in my case that was not playing a part in my fertility but everyone is different and that level should be kept track of closely.

edited to add: my doctor had me chart my temps to figure out when I might be ovulating, he then had me buy an ovulation predictor test. I had to go in and had blood done during these certain times in my cycle to test for LH and all the other usual hormones, that is how he found out that my progesterone levels were dropping prematurely which can be caused by pcos, the drop was causing me to miscarry.

I'd being willing to bet it's just hormonal changes, unrelated to menopause.

Be careful with that. It can fluctuate and go downhill fast. Also some endicrinologists will treat even when it's in the normal (low-normal) range. If you have any other symptoms (I think the cycle change can be one), I'd ask for it to be tested again.

I was also insulin resistant and got pregnant on my first cycle with metformin.

Good luck to you!

I carry some extra weight, too, and find my cycles are much more regular when I am lighter, eating better and exercising.

I also have PCOS. I am on metformin for it. I'm always hot so I can't help with whether or not it is a symptom of something. I just blame on it me being waay overwreight. (((((Hugs)))) I had problems trying to conceive and ended up conceiving with metfromin and clomid.

Thank you very much.. I will ask my dr. to do another one when I go to my appt to compare with my last one. If there is a difference, I will push my dr. to refer me to an endicrinologists. I would have never thought about getting retested. Thanks!:thumbsup2
