We were at Universal two years ago right before Thanksgiving and stayed at the HRH and loved it. We are thinking about booking for the same time this year but I'm thinking about switching to the PBH.

My DD is 17 and my DS is 15 and loved HRH so do you think they will love PBH? I thought PBH looked beautiful but I don't want to switch just to switch although I would like to try something new.

What do you think is best for teenagers?

Thanks in advance.

My teenagers love both but our next stay is PBH. If asked they would stay HRH is their favorite (cool pool).

It's nice to try something new. Teenagers in general like HRH best. Like mentioned HRH's pool is very cool. Pool hopping is allowed so you can stay at one and visit the other.

I am new to the boards, although I have been lurking for quite awhile. We have never stayed on site before, so am just starting to research the properties.

I also have teens and would love to know more info about resorts for teens. What makes the Hard Rock pool better for teens than the Portofino pool?

(Hopefully, I am not hijacking the thread. Can somebody other than the original person ask questions on the same general topic? If I am in violation of board etiquette, my most serious apologies.)

I will be looking forward to reading the responses here.

As the OP, I'm fine with you asking questions. The more info we all have the better!

We stayed at hard rock with teenage boys and they loved it. We visited PBH, my boys weren't really impressed.

Hi ColoradoBuffaloMom,

We have 2 teens 16 & 18. (Monarch HS). We usually stay at PBH. My kids love it, especially the large rooms. However, they really do prefer the pool at the Hardrock. The nice thing is that the walk between the two resorts is so easy that if they want to swim there, they just go. They just make sure to take their cells (of course, what teen would be without their cell phone?) so that we can reach them if we are going out somewhere.

It gives us the best of both worlds. We get the size and luxury of the PBH, and they get to choose which resort they want to swim at.

PBH has 3 pools and 2 are kind of for us old foagies. The Beach pool is as nice as HRH with a larger slide and Roman aquaduct themeing. The HRH is more appealing to kids because of the clientele and bikinis in my son's case. They even have underwater speakers.

Right, the PBH pool has a slide that's just as good as the HRH slide. I guess the "hip" factor plays into it. The HRH does seem to have a bigger beach.

PBH pool is here, has a beach going around the entire pool, but it's more like hard sand. On our visit they had a guy playing steal drums for the music.

And then we switch to the HRH which has a bigger beach with lots of girls in bikinis and pop music playing on the speakers.

The PBH has larger rooms, and the bathroom is huge. The walk from the PBH to the HRH dock is 8 minutes, so the kids could walk over.

HRH probably wins with the "cool" factors for teens, but it's also good to introduce new experiences and, at least in my opinion, your vacation should also be based on what the adults want to do and where you want to stay (i know, better concept than reality). Anyway, it's a great problem to have...you can't go wrong with either place.

My son is 17 & we stayed at Hard Rock last year & Portofino Bay this year. He loved Hard Rock & was not happy when I said we were going to try Portofino this year but he loved Portofino too. Portofino has bigger rooms & that bathroom in just the standard room was huge. Good luck deciding. If you check out AllEarsNet.com there are some pictures of the room we stayed at in May. It was a standard room on the 1st floor, East Wing.

We have never stayed on-site before and when we go in Oct., it will be DH's only vacation this year. I opted for PBR as it looked very peaceful and I liked the idea of the bigger rooms. Since they are all within walking distance, we can roam around when we get there.... :thumbsup2
