I've read as much as I can on the threads regarding PBH, but I need short and sweet advice from the Universal experts. This is our first time at Universal and we leave very soon.

We have a Garden View/2 Queen room reserved. Please correct me if I am wrong on any of the following and add any info you think I need to know:

1. DH has a seriously bad hip and needs to be close to the boat, so I understand we should request the West Wing. Right?

2. I am allergic to....everything. :rotfl: At WDW, they do the special allergy/asthma room treatment, but I know that's rare and I figure PBH does not have an equivalent. Is that true?

3. Aside from non-feather pillows, do they do anything else such as provide sheets that have been washed in perfume free detergent? (That's a HUGE help.)

4. I should request to be as far away from any pet rooms as possible.

5. All rooms are nonsmoking????

6. We like a quiet room and unless they upgrade us, I suppose garden view is pretty quiet....so long as we avoid being next to the elevator or laundry room. Where is the laundry room, BTW? If by some miracle they DO upgrade us, it seems most people are upgraded to a pool view. Does "pool view" automatically translate to "loud" or is it still pretty quiet? Keep in mind, it is November.

7. I know we have to pay to park at the hotel, but is that for a 24 hour period? Do we have in & out privileges?

8. I've read about pedi-cabs that will take you to the parks. I've heard they work on tips. If that's true, can they carry 2 adults and a 70 pound kid? What is a decent amount to pay them?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated. THANKS! :thumbsup2

If I was you, I'd call the hotel directly and talk to them. They are VERY accommodating. All rooms are now non smoking. You want to be in the West Wing close to an elevator. They should be able to do that no problem. You should also be fine in a pedicab. Payment for pedicab seems to be extremely varied, so you'll have to use your own judgement. However, they aren't always there, so you may have to wait for a boat or take the shuttle bus.

With the parking, you do have in/out privileges. There are no laundry rooms at PBH.

I've never heard any noise at PBH. It is very quiet there.

ACK! No laundry rooms? I didn't see that coming.....

Thanks!

1. DH has a seriously bad hip and needs to be close to the boat, so I understand we should request the West Wing. Right? My DH has a medial condition as well, RH, and also needed to be close to the boat. I made my reservation thru US's telephone number and explained DH's situation. The reservationist noted our request of the West Wing, close to the boat launch. When we checked in at 11:00, we were told that our room was not ready and would not be until 4:30. We reminded the check in clerk of DH's medical issue at that time. At 4:30 we went to the front desk for our room and was told that our room was in the East wing......about the farthest away from everything! The front desk clerk was very rude and not at all accomidating. I understand that a request for a room location is just that a request, not a guarentee. We asked about a different room closer to the boat launch and were told that the hotel is full, no other rooms available. It was not a good experience for us, must have been a bad staff day.

2. I am allergic to....everything. :rotfl: At WDW, they do the special allergy/asthma room treatment, but I know that's rare and I figure PBH does not have an equivalent. Is that true? Can't help you on this one, I would call and ask. Our room was perfectly clean and in wonderful condition.

3. Aside from non-feather pillows, do they do anything else such as provide sheets that have been washed in perfume free detergent? (That's a HUGE help.)

4. I should request to be as far away from any pet rooms as possible. I did not see any pets there, but I did see on the web site that pets area allowed.

5. All rooms are nonsmoking???? All the rooms are non-smoking

We found our room to be very quiet, no problems at all with noise. There is no laundry, self service. HRH has self service laundry.

We used the rick-shaw service every day as the boats were very crowded. We put either two people in them at a time, but I think you could add a 70 lb kid. We paid $5.00 a rick-shaw per trip. We used them 4 times a day and really enjoyed the bike riders. They work on tips only, so you decide how much to pay.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated. THANKS! :thumbsup2

Even though we did not get the room that we needed, we still liked PBH. The rooms are large, bathrooms are HUGE! The rooms were very clean and comfy. Next time we are going to try HRH, as it is closer to US.

Thanks for all your answers! DD would loooooove the rickshaws, so I hope we can manage that. I called the hotel today and they said they could put sheets washed in non-perfumed detergent on the beds as well as no feather pillows. I asked to be as far away from the pet area as possible and they said that since the pets are in the East wing, they'll put us in the West wing. When I told them DH needed a hip replacement, that sealed it with the West wing. :lmao: He had one scheduled for this year, but cancelled because he's afraid if he gets one at this age, he will need another at some point. He wants the hip replacement to be a one shot deal. Can't blame him.

I will cross my fingers that we get the west wing, since the second week of November ought not be too crowded, even if it is Jersey week......

Thanks so much!

be sure to tell them you need a feather-free room. we have the duvet cover

removed also because it has feathers in it. (our son also has severe allergies.)

we have requested and got a deep cleaning of the room before we check in.

you can also ask to have the sheets removed daily. we have requested a patio

or balcony because our son needs the extra fresh air it provides and we have

always gotten one. if you need a fridge for medical reasons it is free- be sure

and let them know when you check in. good luck!:)

the 2 loews hotels, rph and pbh, will accommodate all medical needs.
i had laundry service daily for my linens and it was not an issue at all.
i have been back a bit over 2 weeks at this point from that vacation stay.

when you check in and if something is not correct for the room location, ask to speak to the duty manager.
it will be corrected.
