Just thought I'd share this with the good people of this board by way of a warning.

I received an email this morning purporting to be from Paypal asking me to send all sorts of financial information due to a change of server. It looks EXTREMELY authentic but is clearly a scam because,

1. I don't have a paypal account, never have
2. The site you are taken to is not secure ie starts http not https
3. No legitimate company would ever ask for your credit card details in an email
4. They even want you to input your ATM PIN number!
5. Paypal are renowned for being the subject of fraudulent scams.

I also subscribe to another message board concerned with my other passion in life (motor bikes) and a great number of them have been on this morning to say they also received the paypal email today, so it is obvioulsy been spammed around the world.

I would hate to think of any disers being taken in by this but as I said it does look VERY authentic and we all know that there are some very gullible people out there.

Hi,

At least you don't use E Bay so knew it was a scam.My DH buys stuff on there and we have had several of these e-mails.Very clever and they look totally authentic.I would never give my cre dit card details out like that but it was so authentic my DH kept wondering if his account would be suspended as the e-mail threatens.

There must have been people who were taken in by this scam,I'd like to know?:(

my other half works in IT Security and has already told me about this. Its not a scam as such but is actually a virus called mimail.i, it will arrive as an email from paypal admin and says that your account will expire in five days unless you send your information again. If you open the attachment it will ask for your credit card, pin number, cvv code and expiry. These details are then masked onto new cards and used to defraud you.

It will then procede to email itself to every person in your email address books as well.

Its been around since mid november and has been extremely succesful because it looks so genuine, numerous people have been 'duped' and have lost money from it.
