Paypal exchange rate... why is it lower?

Why is the paypal rate so much lower?

Was going to pay the remainder balance on our rental home today, but it shows the exchange rate as 1 CAD = 0.900388 U.S.

But xe.com shows the exchange rate as 1 CAD = 0.924984 USD

What gives?

0mThe rate on xe.com is not the rate when yoiu go to a bank or pay with a credit card. They all will charge a commision on the exchange from 1.5 to 2.5 cents.

I currently have a TD US Visa and their US Borderless bank account. The service charge is $5US per month but they waive the $39US fee on my VISA and give me the staff exchange rate. I paid $1096CAD for $1000US at about a11am eastern time.

also, XE.com shows the mid-market rate, meaning the middle point between buying price and selling price of each currency.
