I'm considering renting a condo from an owner through VRBO, but he doesn't take credit cards, just paypal or check. He says if I want to use paypal, I'll have to pay the fee, which he said was 2.9%. Does that sound right?

Yes that is how much the fee is. Technically it's against the rules to ask you to pay it but plenty of people do.

Just curious, what rules is this against? I've never heard of PayPal having a rule like this.

Yep! I would suggest paying with a credit card and paying the fee. At least if the transaction goes south, you can dispute it with your credit card company.

That's for ebay.. you can't put in your auction that the seller must cover your ebay fees. You can add it to your s&h charges or your starting bid.

I know that Ebay has that rule. Buy the OP wasn't talking about Ebay, but rather VRBO and I have not heard of VRBO or PayPal having that rule.

I haven't either.. I posted that incase the other poster had it confused with ebay.
