Do you think the best way to go is Travlers checks, cash or credit card?
It seems that for a 13 day vacation (I can't wait )that would be a big wad of cash!?!? Are Travlers checks all that handy in DL? Thinking of Gas, Eat, rooms, souveniers.....THE LIST GOES ON....... whats the best way to go??

We did most of our purchases with credit card, but you'll want some cash on hand for smaller purchases, tips, etc.

Our (DLH) hotel room had a safe, and we kept in there everything of value that we weren't taking into the park: Extra cash, credit cards, ID cards, even our travel docs. We tried to take to the park only what we needed for that day. With two kids there's enough to carry!

I always carry credit cards and an ATM card so I can keep a little bit of cash on me at all times.

What I did, I always had $100 in cash for the places which only except cash. Its also easier for you to pull out $$$$ then it is to search around for that dreaded card at the bottom of your (Purse, backpack, fannypack). But of course I kept my ATM and my Visa on hand just in case as well. Cause you never know if your going to need it or not.

Cash and a Credit card is all you need.

I would carry around $50 per person in Cash for the places that accept only cash. Most of those are like the Outdoor Venders. Everything else, swipe with your credit card.

We did a 12 day vacation last year(4 people total) and used credit cards for all places that would take them. We brought about $300 in cash ( $50s and $20s) for the food carts, vendors, and arcade money. I think we even came home with about $80 in cash.

So no one does travelers checks realy? I do remember them being a bit of a hassle at gas stations but I didn't have a CC way back then.

The last time I went I used travellers checks and they worked great. You get cash back so you don't have to fish out a twenty dollar check for a two dollar piece of candy. The only trouble I had with the checks was at the Sephora Disney Downtown or whatever and my signature wasn't exact and they gave me a little bit of a hard time but in the end it worked out.

I havent used travelers checks in a long time...I really didnt have any problems with them in and around the park/anaheim area...however, traveling home I encountered small issues at gas stations, McDonalds etc....believe it or not, alot of people didnt know what they were or that they are treated as cash...they had to go ask their manager personally, I would rather use ATM/CC and cash...everybody just about it takes cc or ATM cards

Credit card is the way to go at Disneyland. Credit cards are much more convenient (easier to carry one card and than fumbling with stacks of travelers checks) and allow for faster checkout.

I was in line at a souvenir shop inside DL behind this gentleman who wanted to pay for $50 worth of stuff with travelers checks. The line got held up a good 5 minutes before I was lucky enough to get called to another checkout counter. I had about $200 worth of stuff and paid with credit card. The cast member carefully wrapped everything while we had a leisurely converation. When I walked out of the store, the gentleman with the travelers checks was still checking out.

Pretty much most places inside DL accept credit cards. Heck, you can even pay for parking with credit card now. Just be sure to bring some cash for the food stands if you intend to use them.

You can consider applying for the Disney Visa credit card. It has certain useful benefits such as free stroller rental, special photo op available only to Disney Visa card holders, and you get 10% merchandise discount. Right now they're offering $25 Disney Rewards for signing up.

I just got this but was not aware of the 10% discount????? or photo op

10 % is if you spend $50 or more at one time.. Then sometimes at resturants 10% off of meals..

Photo op.. Ariels grotto at DCA from 10-11:30 daily..
Every card golder on a different account can get a pass for a free picture. When we ahve gone it has been Mickey and Goofy.

It is a $12 value..

Plus free stroller rentals.

Gotta like those perks.

hey, I'm just picking up on this - but it appears that you can't charge items to your room? At WDW, if you stay on property, your room key also serves as admission card, and you can charge things using that card.

Is that not true at DL?

Just a quick note if you are concerned about carrying your credit card. At and Disney Store you can get a gift card (or several of them) with dollar amounts and they are good at the DL parks or WDW for that matter.

You CAN charge items to your room, but it is not with your room key. You have a room charge slip given when you check in that you need to carry with you everywhere. If you want to charge items to your room, apparently there is extra paperwork the shops need to fill out, so it's time-consuming and more of a hassle than helpful. We decided not to do that. You also can have items sent directly to the onsite hotel, but the items will not be available until the next day; that may also be more of a hassle. We opted instead to buy things as we were walking out of the park, unless the item was small enough to fit in our backpack.

It seems that many things at WDW seem better run technologically. DL is behind the times.

A bit behind the WDW, yes; perhaps a few coins of the millions approved to "refresh" the California Adventure park will go in to improve the entire resort technologically.... It would be nice..

4 days to Las Vegas; 5 until we check into The Disneyland Hotel!!!!
