I'm sure this has been discussed, but a situation has arise where I have * points that I will not be able to use and want to rent/transfer them. My question: on the Rent/Transfer stickey it states: "NOTE: DVC rules prohibit the transfer of points in exchange for any type of compensation. "

Is this just leagalize? Can I assume members transfer points to another memebrs account for money all the time? What methods of payment are generally used? I assume there is a "trust" issue that arises.

Any help/advice appreciated.

Most members will handle a transfer of points via 3 way call with MS - the member receiving the points needs to provide MS with their account number & the member transferring the points needs to authorize MS to move them from their account to yours; if there is talk between the members regarding compensation for this transfer MS will void the transfer. Don't know if this is entirely the information you are looking for.

Technically there is not supposed to be a payment for a transfer, but in practicality it is done all the time, MS just want no part of knowing about it and takes no responsibility if it goes “bad”. Generally 50% before transfer and 50% after transfer is pretty standard.

Like you, I doubt the transfers are doone without compensation.

Consider those words as Disney's way of telling you they are not going to get involved in any dispute. Transfers are a final and irreversible transaction. If there is any problem with the "compensation", you are on your own to resolve it. Disney will not get involved.

We are trying to rent our points for the first time. Is there a thread already on this site that gives some good advice for this?

The Rent/Trade forum should have all the info you need. Start with the stickys first.
