Going to the world in May, currently have a room only reservation made directly with Disney. We're probably going to add the deluxe dining plan and wanted to know how payment for that works (never had it or any package of any sort).

When I call to add it, do I pay right then? (This is not a problem, just want to make sure I know what to expect)

Also want to know how late I can add it and do I have to finish paying for my room right then? Hope this makes sense.

We're still more than 60 days out.

Shoot! Also, can I pay with Disney gift cards as well for it?

We just did this, going room only to adding dining. Do you need tickets or not? If so you'll have a MYW package as normal. If not, as you didn't mention them, you'll be switching into a ticketless package. Package rules will apply (deposit, etc) - I found this page useful for contrasting the two: http://www.mousesavers.com/walt-dis...-room-only-reservations-vs-vacation-packages/

I believe you have to make any additions a minimum of 3 days out but wouldn't recommend waiting to the last minute if avoidable, just in case of issues.

If your dates and stay location / rate are available they will just cancel your prior room only reservation and refund it, then you pay as normal on the package. If they are not, they can still convert it directly but will have to get Guest Services involved, and some front line CM's may not be familiar with that process. We had to call back to get someone who was familiar.

We paid our balance using two Disney gift cards and it went fine. Do use disneygiftcard.com to consolidate beforehand if you have several, it will make it easier on you and the CM assisting.

If you convert more than 30 days out you'll need to out down a $200 deposit and they'll refund the RO charge.

If it's within 30 days you'll pay the balance in full.

Dining plan can only be added to a Package, not to a room only reservation so when you add dining, your room only reservation will be cancelled and you will have to book a package. The rules for a package vs a room only reservation are different when it comes to deposit, final payment date, cancellation and change fees. If you book a package before the final payment date (30 days before arrival) you will pay a $200 deposit and the deposit on your room only reservation will be refunded and full payment will be due at the 30 day mark. If you book the package within 30 days of arrival the entire cost of the reservation will be due immediately. You have until 3 days before arrival to add or upgrade/downgrade the dining plan.

If you add the dining plan on to a room you can wait until a few days before arrival, but then you need to pay everything in full. If you have a room and dining plan package then you must pay in full 45 days prior to your arrival. With a room only you can cancel for a full refund up to 5 days before arrival, but with the package with dining that changes. You are in some circumstances able to add dining plan to a room without a ticket, but not in all instances so just check with Disney and see if you need to add the tickets as well.

All dining plan reservations (except DVC reservations) are packages. They must all be paid off no later than 30 days before arrival. If you add the dining plan more than 30 days before arrival you can wait to pay it off, but you may have to pay a new deposit because your old one may be refunded. If you add the plan between 30 and 3 days then you have to pay it off when you add it.

you can add a dining plan to a room without a ticket (you have to call WDW to do this) but once you have done so, that reservation is a package, not a room-only.
