Just found a weekly rate of $84.99. I really wasn't going to rent a car, but at that rate, it's only a little more than Tiffany Town Car plus the occasional taxi around the world late at night. Is this company okay? Is their airport shuttle to the rental site good and quick? What kind of taxes and extra charges can I expect renting in FL? I will not not not rent a car if the cost is significantly more than TTC.

well my rental from 74.32 goes up to 100.92 with all the taxes and surcharges on it!

Hmmm, so my total could be about $120, plus gas to refill at the end... my next question is, where did you get that $74 rate, Beverly Lynn? ;)

The biggest question for me is the car vs. no-car question, but I'll leave that for a new thread.

I think you said in your other post that you don't even own a car since you live in NYC. I would assume if you don't own a car you also don't have auto insurance so you would need to take out some of the insurance offered by the rental company. I believe that can run about $20 a day.

Now, I always get conflicting reports about that. Aren't the rental car companies required to carry some liability on the cars, whatever the state requires?

If I am required to buy insurance, it blows the budget out of the water. Hello Tiffany!

I am sure they are required to hold liabilty insurance, but I believe that still leaves you liable to them. It's just something you need to ask the rental company. It hasn't ever been an issue for me since I have my own insurance. I also have never been asked for proof of insurance, so I really don't know. Personally I would ask the rental company just to be sure, I would hate to have a wreck and find out later that because I didn't have auto insurance I was personally liable to the rental company.
