I got a great deal on a car thru Payless. I never rented thru them before.

Are they more or less convenient than Alamo or Dollar?

Any other pros/cons?

They are off site I believe, you will need to take a shuttle bus to their location just outside the airport.
Can't say how they are though I have never used them. It would have to be a pretty good price difference, for me to use them vs. an onsite company.

Offsite just won't do. that's just what I need after a long day of travel....waiting for a shuttle to take me to the line for a car.

I'm looking elsewhere for a good rate; and if I can't find one, mears it is!

thanks so much for the warning :)

...I had gone with this lesser known company not only for the rate, but because I've been to Orlando a number of times in the car rental line along with everyone else while all the other counters are empty.

I guess whoever has the low rates is going to have the long line so it is a losing game to hope for both a good deal and a short line.

Any suggestions on which companies are more and less busy?

Thank you!

What are your travel dates and times.
The best I get are with Alamo or Dollar, Mostly Alamo.
Alamo has kiosks so you don't have to wait in line.

Payless is offsite but it's just a mile from the airport. Their shuttles are continuous to and from the airport. I use their parking lot for off-site parking when I'm on a trip that's going to run longer than 2 days. I've not rented from them but I'm familiar with the operation. If their rate is significantly lower, I would not hesitate to use them.

Payless has had attractive rates a lot of the time.
Payless' walk up rates are likely to be higher than everyone else's best rates although probably lower than everyone else's walk up rates.
Now Payless has had more recorded complaints than most. As with any rental, you need to practice your "just say no" speech before going to the rental counter where they try to sell you extra coverages.

Payless, although off site, is on the way to Disney.
Their shuttle takes you out the north airport exit (436; Semoran Blvd.) and left at the first light (Frontage Rd.) and a little way down on the right, a route worth remembering if you rent from someone else.

From their lot go right (west) instead of their suggested left. Less than a mile to next light (Conway Rd.), take two quick lefts to get onto 528 (Beach Line) west. Take what looks like an exit ramp to pay the single $1.00 (or is it still 75 cents?) toll in cash. Continue on to I-4 west (southwest) to Disney.

Return to airport via I-4 east (northeast) and exit onto 528 east. Then go down an "exit ramp" to pay the toll in cash. Then get off 528 at its exit 9 (Tradeport). Left and cross under, get into middle lane. Required right onto McCoy (becomes Frontage near the Payless office). (Continue on to Semoran with other brand rental cars and take a right to enter the airport.)
