How do we go about using WDW gift cards to pay for the resort "after" we check in? My daughter and I are splitting the cost of a trip. I'm arriving early and will check in using my credit card ... my daughter will arrive later that afternoon and wants to pay her Half of the trip with her WDW gift cards. Can I go back to the desk and ask that I be refunded my part of our trip charges on my credit card and then pay back (pay off) that same amount (my DD's part) with her gift cards?
OR how do you go about this? thanks

I would just have your DD call Disney before arrival and make a payment using her cards. That way you can pay your half when you arrive and be done with it. This only works for a room only reservation. Packages must be paid in full 45 days before arrival.

This is a resort only ressie.... Thanks, yes I thought of that, but she doesn't want to buy the gift cards in advance of leaving for the trip (wants to buy day of trip).... due to other circumstances she doesn't want to tie up her money in gift cards if at the last minute she can't go. She was hoping just to pay with them when she arrives. Of course the whole point of the gift cards is to save another 5% with Target gift cards...
so do you think we can pay the way I mentioned in my original post? thanks

Don't know if this info will help, but I had a Disney Rewards Card with about $100 on it that I meant to apply to my room only reservation at check-in. I totally forgot about the card until about 3/4 of the way through the trip. I went to the front desk and asked if I could still apply the $100 towards my account. She said "no problem" and the credit card I used at check-in was credited back for the amount which was on my rewards card. It took the CM just a few mintues to make the change.

You can have your gc applied to your account as a credit and use against it. Your receipts will not show a total charged to your room, but you can get a print-out from the resort every day or two. If you use Disney gc as payment in restaurants and shops, the receipt *will* show the amount remaining on the gc.

If you leave a cc guarantee on the room and charge to your room, the card won't be charged until you hit a certain level ($500 Value, $1000 Mod, $1500 Deluxe). Before you hit that level, you can go to the front desk and apply your gc to the balance and your cc will not be charged. That is what I would do.

OP, I have forgotten to apply my Rewards dollars to my resort balance and was able to get a credit to my cc, and use my Rewards dollars, even on the day of check-out. I'm sure they would probably do the same with a gc, but it might be somewhat time-consuming (it was when I got my credit). Could you use your daughter's gc for food up to the point that she's "paid" for her half of the room? Or she could give you gc totalling what her share was, for you to spend as you wish?

I even got the CM's behind the desk to check with their Managers, who both said the same thing. No gift cards will be applied until there are charges to the account. Maybe other people get different answers, but I keep getting the same one. It would be so much easier just to put all of the gift cards on the account when you check in and just use them up during your stay.

Ok thank you! I agree it woulda just be easier to let me load them on the account when I arrive and when they are gone they are gone and then they can charge my cc. Oh well, guess I will just have to pay my account every other day.

Yes, we took applied some of our gift cards toward future charges. We didn't apply them all at one time, because we didn't want to apply more than we were going to spend. We later went back and apply additional GCs.

Awesome! That is where we are staying in May! Hopefully they will let us do that

Ip I don't have specific answers for you but I did wanna mention that even if they do credit your half back to your card most credit/banks won't have a credit available for up to 14 days. So it may hold as a pending credit long afterwards.

Also could you pick up the Target Disney cards for your daughter that day then she pay you when she arrives? Unless of course she wants to charge it.
