Paying to park with DVC?

If (or probably when) Disney starts charging for resort parking, will DVC members have to pay to park as well? I mean, will we have to pay to park at our "home"?

Marriott doesn't charge owners even at the resorts that charge parking even if they are on an exchange. I believe Aulani handles it the same if staying on points. I doubt they charge members staying on owned points even if they start charging at some resorts. And if they do charge, I suspect SSR, OKW and ? AKV will be exempt and the rumored resorts at CBR & CS as well.

If they do that it will be time to sell. How petty can they get.

Most won't even those that say they will but either way it'll be fun on the boards no doubt.

Don't DVC members pay to maintain resort parking lots? I think they do. If so, I don't see how Disney can charge for parking (unless the "profit" is returned to DVC & used to offset monthly dues). Or perhaps they could "lease" the lots from the resort owners and then keep the proceeds. Either way, seems like a lot of trouble for not much return to Disney.

The Preferred Parking at DS is not located in one of the garages, it's 2 small surface parking lots.

Taking the VGC as an example where they charged for parking for resort guests, those staying at VGC on points did not have to pay for parking because a portion of the annual dues covers lot maintenance.

Aulani is another example where cash guests staying at Aulani but guests staying in DVC villas on points have free guest parking for two vehicles (yes it is limited per villa).

If MF's cover it then they couldn't restrict. Or, let's say that might induce legal questions.

It's not likely possible but they could use it as a VIP perk though the payments for those receiving the benefit would likely have to come from the developer side.

It possibly depends on what their supply demand issue is. If they have plenty of parking - because the parking to rooms ratio is reasonable and a lot of people use Magical Express, there isn't any reason to charge DVC members to park other than corporate greed. If they discover that they don't have sufficient parking, then in order to get people to use ME, they may charge - ramps are incredibly expensive to build and have security concerns, I can't see many ramps going in at hotels just to provide ample free parking. They may also build an "off resort" free lot that you can catch a shuttle from (sort of like airport parking) for those that drive (and therefore don't use ME), but won't use their car regularly at Disney, then charge for parking at the resorts themselves.

They only have so much real estate to work with - and when you add units to a place like the Contemporary, you use up land that was used for already tight parking.

I suspect the first step however will be scanning your magic bands at gates - if you are a guest at that resort, you are fine. If you aren't, you'll pay - even if you are at the resort to dine or shop. No magic band, insert credit card. For most of the resorts with issues, non-resort guest parking seems to be a factor (BW, Poly, CR)
