Has anybody ever done this? Sorry, but I'm a traveler's checks novice!

Yes, I have done this before. You can even use a combination of travelers checks, cash and credit card to pay the balance. For example, I am bringing $500 in travelers checks and I am going to put those towards the room balance. Then whatever is left over, I will use my cash(if there is any left!) and lastly use the credit card.:thumbsup2

I almost forgot to tell you to make sure you sign them the one time before you leave the bank( they will tell you where). This way if they get lost or stolen, you can get them replaced. I also take along the receipts with their serial numbers and keep them in the hotel safe just to be on the safe side as you will need those numbers to get replacements.

Traveler's Checks are used just like cash. Better than carrying cash--but not quite as convenient as using a debit card.:wizard:
