We are planning on going down December 2004 from a Thursday to Thursday. We will be using our points for a 2 BR at our home resort BCV (I hope!) But I was wondering if it is possible to pay cash for one of the weekend nights so we can save on points? Since this would be in the middle of our reservation, will that be a problem? Will I have to make 3 different reservations (IE one for Thursday & Friday, 1 res for Sat night, 1 res for Sunday to Wednesday)? Will that mean we will have to move rooms? Have I totally confused anyone else besides myself at this point? ;) TIA

I think they will be 3 separate ressies (with 3 confirmation numbers), but as long as you make all the arrangements with MS, they can link them all together and you should not have to change rooms.

If you use the cash discount through member services, they will link it together as 1 reservation (probably different conf #'s though). We used the member discount for a Friday & Saturday, then points Sunday to Thursday nights. When we checked in on Friday, we got keys & parking permits for the entire stay like it was 1 reservation. If you book the weekend nights through CRO, then they would be 3 reservations, you would have to get new keys each time plus they will not guarantee you willn't have to move.

FYI, any codes that can be used with CRO can be used with MS. The other advantage to using MS is there is no deposit required and the cancellation policy is more lienient.

We've never done cash. Can anyone give me a ball park figure for the cash per day weekend cost of a 2 bedroom standard view or preferred view at BWV, Adventure season? We're going next October and renting 3 -2 bedrooms, so the weekend days are really gobbling up our points!

Rack rate for a BWV 2 bedroom in October, 2004 will be $705/night plus tax (11%). Cash seasons are not necessarily the same as point seasons. Here's a link to 2004 rack rates in case you want to see the whole chart for yourself:

When you pay cash, all views are the same price - you are assigned ROH (Run of the House, which means whatever they have available). Since members tend to reserve all of the standard views (and now the Boardwalk views), you may have difficulty arranging to stay in the same rooms if your points reservations are for standard view.

Your reunion sounds like fun - enjoy!

I always do a day or two on cash, and your best bet will be to get an AP(annual passport) so that you can get the best rates. In the fall, that means the rooms are 1/2 price, so the two bedroom--if available--would run you around $340 per night. You will need to reserve the two bedroom as a member thru MS, then when the passholder rates come out, call CRO and reserve it thru them. Then call MS , cancel the cash room, and link the remaining ressies including the one thru CRO so you won't need to move. I would not do the ressie thru MS--they don't charge a night on your credit card like CRO does, but you still have penalties for cancellation less than 31 days ahead. Also, the cost of the room will be so much less with CRO, if the room is available. Also, the night that you pay cash thru CRO will get you a complete cleaning from maid service, which is a nice treat in the middle of the week.:p

what would the AP discount be for December for VWL? We are doing a 2BR and was thinking of saving the points as well. What a great idea!

I tried that last May and member services said no. The AP rate was about $20 less per night, they said I had to go through CRO and they would not guarantee that I would not have to move. Since it was only 2 nights, I left it with the member discount.

The cancellation policy was the same - if I cancelled 5 days or less before, they would charge me 1 night. They didn't collect a deposit, but they took my credit card # as a guarantee.

The resorts board would be the place to find out historical discount information. Keep in mind that AP discounts are never guaranteed and not always available during certain times of the year (particularly holidays). They generally aren't announced until 2-3 months in advance as well.

I did it last summer, and it worked fine. I had 5 nights on one contract, 2 nights cash, and 5 nights on a different contract. I made the cash ressies with CRO, and told her to link it with the other two ressies. Then I called MS and also linked all ressies. When I checked into BWV, I told them that I had 3 ressies, which they already knew because they saw all the linked ressies. I never even had to go to the desk again--when I changed over to cash, they automatically billed Am EX for charges to my room, and used the same # for the cash nights, and put a bill and new keys under my door before 7 am. I went to the desk but they had it already done, and had the last part of the ressie (the second contract) flagged. No problem at all.:p I can't stress enough, however, that it's your job to make sure everything is linked thru BOTH CRO and MS. This also means that you are slotted into a room before everyone else, which could be positive or negative. While this is not guaranteed, I have done it 3 times per year since 1997, and I never had to move yet! In the fall, AP rates are about 1/2 price for the 2 bedroom, but they go fast, and you can't book until about 60 days ahead (Iheard a rumor that it's now 90 days ahead, but I don't know if that's true). The 2 bedroom will be about $340 plus tax, sometimes less. I got a 2 bedroom last year for $266, but that's unusual.

Melissa,
You are correct that the discounts are not usually available during Christmas and Easter in a DVC unit, but they have always been available on the 4th of July. Also, if you are interested in staying in one of Disney's hotel rooms, the AP rate is available on the holidays. I am currently staying in the Beach Club on the AP rate of $169 per night, I arrived prior to the 24th of December, so my room will get the AP rate for all my nights until I check out on December 29th. They also upgraded me to a lagoon view room, no charge, so I am one happy camper!:p

What great advice! I just bought AP vouchers which we will activate when we go on Jan. 15, so I'll keep checking for those AP rates as October gets closer. Thanks, everyone!
