Anyone taking out a loan or paying with credit card? Just curious to see how many people actually pay for their wedding using just their savings alone.

we dont have a credit card and with the credit crunch at the moment dont want to get a loan so we are saving VERY hard to pay for it all

We have been saving really hard but with time running out we are missing our wedding total buy about $2000 (I do keep adding things!!!) so we are trying to get a credit card but I'm not sure we will get approved with the credit card what with the crunch. I didn't want to get in any more debt because of the wedding but I have had to cut down my overtime because of health issues lately and my thinking now is I don't want to get ill just trying to pay it all in cash.

We're planning paying with savings. It's the whole reason I'm working on a ship for 8 straight months.

We're planning on paying at least the majority with saving, and putting as little as possible on a credit card. But, we're not getting married for a few years, so we've got the time to save up a lot.

My family is paying the basic wedding cost and we're paying for the rest of the trip, (grand floridian) as well as dinner, rehearsal dinner, attire, and any extras we did ourselves with savings and Disney visa points and Disney Honeymoon registry money. At this point we have much more saved than we will spend.

One tip I can offer - even if you don't need to charge your wedding to a credit card b/c you've saved the money, paying for it with a Disney Rewards Visa or a card that earns points/miles/rebates and then paying the card off immediately is a great way to rack up the rewards! :thumbsup2

We are saving for our wedding. We may use our credit card for holiday spending money or any last minute things but we hardly ever use it and then we always pay it off straight away.

This is exactly what I'm doing! :thumbsup2 I've been saving up for a very long time for this wedding, but I am going to put it all on credit cards so I can get some Disney rewards and skymiles out of it. Once the bill comes - its going to be paid off in full.

We are paying for it out of our savings but will put the majority of things on the credit card to pay off with the money we have saved.

We are having lunch and dinner at restaurants (Escape wedding) and I don't want to be messing about paying cash or travellers cheques so we will put that on the card. The idea is to pay a load onto it before we go so the money is there.

We will pay for everything else big (flights, accommodation etc) on the card and pay it straight back.

I've got another card that has around £500 ($1000) permanently free and we always take that as emergency or back-up so that will be coming too.

We paid for it ourselves out of savings. We did put it on a card because we get cash back on all purchases, but it was paid in full.

Ive dibbed everywhere!!! My parents are paying the majority, ive saved and saved and scrimped and saved a bit more and then if I need to my credit card will have to take a few swipes  Knowing my budget control it will be lots of swipes!!!

Our plan was to pay for everything using savings... but now that we're ~4 months out, I'm getting a bit nervous about it, not entirely sure we'll be able to work enough overtime to pay for everything (plus I ended up owing the IRS this year, so that cut into our savings a bit). We might have to put somewhere between $1k-$2k on a credit card at the very end, but we're hoping not to.

We are saving up to pay cash. I refuse to go into debt for one day. We are paying for everything cash. The rings, hotel, dress, suit etc. Anything wedding related is being saved for and comes out of our fund. To be honest it is fantastic practice to get us in the habit of saving regularly.

omg, you're considering taking out a loan? i've heard of some brides refinancing their houses to pay for a wedding! :headache:

Well, when you consider that the average cost of a wedding in the US today is $30,000, it's no wonder!

Yeah. It's pretty insane!

We'll definatly be contributing to LOWER that. I don't know where in God's name I'd get 30K for it, nor why. I figure, I'll do something smaller and use that money for a down payment on a house!

We're paying for ours entirely with savings and gifts from our parents. We're fortunate that we are able to pay for the wedding in its entirety: I know lots of people can't but, boy, it would scare me to go into debt for a wedding.

We are putting the entire thing on a Disney Rewards card though so that we can earn reward dollars. We're anticipating a total cost of around 13,000 or 15,000 which translates into 150 rewards dollars.

Michellem I noticed you are DVC. We are DVC as well. We were wondering if you could utilize your timeshare for a wedding. I read something about having to stay at Disney resort but wasn't sure if the timeshare counted? I'd hate to have to pay for a resort stay when i want to use my timeshare.
