Paying for upgrades at checkin?

We are booking for the Poly after Thanksgiving and were wondering whether anyone has ever been offered the ability to pay for an upgraded room either for a LV or GV concierge for cheaper than you would have to pay ahead of time? We would really love to do either but it is just too expensive for us right now. Staying at the Poly to begin with is already stretching our budget.

How do you go about asking at checkin? Tell me your experiences please. Is it easier generally to get an upgrade in value season?

Thanks,

Jackie

We were there in Mid Sept while Ivan was on his way to the panhandle of FL. I asked about how much for upgrading to LVC and they said it would be $100 a night more (we were booked for GVC). Which was about the same if I would have prebooked it. There was barely anyone at Disney that week(rode about 14 rides in 2 1/2 hours thats how slow it was). I know they had open rooms. I'm wondering if asking for a free upgrade has gotten so out of control that they are not offering anything even at a discounted rate. I would have payed $50 a night but not $100. I didn't think a view of MK was worth $430 a night. But we loved conceirge

That's exactly what happened to us at the YC in Dec 2003. I too would have paid about $50 more, but was quoted about $130 more a night. -HM

I asked about it at the GF and was quoted the difference between the rack rates. No deals there. I think it's just luck of the draw and value season might be lower rates, but the resort could still be at capacity because of this.

They use to do this, years ago and it was called a 'walk in rate'. But ever since 'codes' started becoming available - Disney ditched the walk in-rates all together.
