Hi!

What do you usually do? Take enough cash to pay for everything or take cards? Is there a fee for using debit or credit cards abroad?

Thanks xx

I take a little cash and then put the rest on my credit card as I have a fee free one & get good exchange rates.

It depends on who you bank with so I would say check with them to see if they charge for overseas use.

We take cash, but also our debit cards incase of an emergency. There is a fee, about £1.50 per transaction (may depend on the particular bank) and you should call them beforehand to tell them your dates/location etc incase they think its fraudulent.

We normally use the easy pay card wchich you can use when staying in a DL hotel. Register your credit card when checking in and you can use this crd almost everywhere to pay. Only one transaction fee that way and no need to carry lots of cash or your cards around with you in the park

You ask when you check in, you have to give your card details over.

It can be used for nearly all purchases food and shopping. It does have a limit (think its daily) that once reached it will charge to get funds.

Can you get this card and then pay it off with cash?

I only have a debit card and was going to bring cash to Paris.

Apperently I was always able to use my debit card at the park, but never did that, just made sure I always had enough money with me.

Since I have my credit card, I take very little cash with me, mostly for little snacks during the day, but other then that, all meals / merch goes onto my credit card, I like it better like that, not walking around with too much cash on me.
If something should get stolen, my cards can be blocked immidiatly.
So rather have that situation, then 400 € in cash being ripped from me.

We have a Halifax Clarity credit card which doesn't charge any fees for use overseas plus you get a better exchange rate than you would if you took euros. It's really hassle free and saves the bother of working out how much money you need/having too much leftover/not having enough.

I've never been, but I'm going to take a post office travel card loaded with €300 then €100 cash.

The easypass card is automatically given to you as it's also your hotel ID, you need it to show where you're staying for EMH, the pool etc. Last time we linked a credit card to it because one of our DDs hadn't been well and I thought I may have to order room service for her. We didn't end up using it after all as she was well enough to come out to eat and I prefer to pay as I go as the last thing I want when I'm reluctantly packing to go home is to have to check a long bill!

I don't know if you'd be able to pay in cash but I think a debit card is OK. I think it gets charged to your card each time it totals €300. You could ask at check-in if you can use cash to pay it but you'll still have to link a card as they put a pending hold on this. However I don't see the point - if you're taking cash you may as well spend it as you go otherwise it'll only be sat there in the safe.

I don't like having all my eggs in one basket and like a mixture of both cash and cards (plus travellers cheques when in US!) We always like to take euros with us for ice-creams, drinks, taxi, train and bus fares, small purchases etc and then use a fee free card for hotels, dining and larger purchases. I wouldn't worry if you haven't got a fee free card but it's something you may want to consider for the future.
