Paying for room with Disney gift cards

I have not had a problem with the Disney gift cards but would like to know how to prepay your room only reservation with the gift cards before you arrive. Last year our credit card had already been charged when we arrived (preregistered on line). We wanted to use our Disney credit card for the points but a computer problem with preregistration would not allow the Disney credit card and we were told to use another card and change it at registration to the Disney card which we did.The problem was it went on the alternate card not the Disney charge card and we lost the Disney points. We did not discover this until we got home. We do not want to go home this year with a pocket full of unused Disney gift cards.

I just called and applied them to the reservation. Can't do it online (from what I could find), but it was simple to call and have them do it.

or you can skip the online check in and do it in person.

Two years ago I checked in online not realizing that they would charge the full amount to my credit card, the CM was able to reverse the charge and pay for it with the giftcards I brought with me when we arrived.

Interesting. We always have room only reservations and do online check in and have never had them charge the card. We have always paid when we arrived with either gift cards or cash, and yes, we had a charge card on file.

I paid ahead of time with gift cards, and even paid some more at check in in person. I did not to online check-in for fear it would charge my card. I just called and paid with a few a day for a while. It was easier to do the phone calls than at the resort in my opinion. Of course I just wanted to get in my room, etc.

I was paying by phone with gift cards up until the day before we left, maybe even the day we left.

Is there any way to pay by entering the card numbers online? I think that it would be too tedious to have to give all the card numbers over the phone.

All the links I find on the Disney site to pay online take me the reservations list on the My Disney Experience with no obvious way to apply the gift cards.

I've done this a number of times now over the phone. The CMs have always been great about it and seem to enjoy seeing the amount owed drop until we get to a very small balance. It doesn't take too much time once you get rolling.

Remember to expose the last four digits on each card before you call. Saves time. (CMs are graded/measured by call time)

We have two reservations for a split stay right now. The first part of it we got the free dining package. That we were able to pay online--it showed the balance remaining in the My Disney Experience, and we used the gift cards by entering them online. The second half we booked room only. I booked it online, but the balance does not show up online and there is no option to pay. My email that I got says the balance is not due until the day we check in. The balance on the package was due 45 days before then.

So it might be that you do not have a package, just the room, and it's not showing up to pay the balance online. You could call and pay with gift cards if you wanted. We are going to leave it and pay when we get there. I was hoping we'd have a credit card with 5% back on hotels this quarter but it looks like we don't.

Once that reservations page loads completely, a link should appear beside your remaining balance that says "make a payment". I've used it serval times in the past few weeks for making payments with gift cards.
