Paying for pool heat in January

Has anyone actually used a pool in January? I'm renting from Windsor Hills and have the option to pay for the pool heat. My kids will swim if the water is warm (they love the winter outdoor swimming in Wisconsin Dells). I'm just not sure if we'll be at the townhome long enough for them to swim and if the water can get warm enough. Are the temps ever warm enough to swim in January? Thanks!

We swim when we're there in Feb. The water was really warm in the pool we had. It's best if they have a pool blanket that you can put on at night. It really keeps the heat in. Sometimes it was too chilly in the air to lay out so when you got out of the pool you ran for inside the house.

We always swim when we are there in February. We always find a place that has a pool and spa so that if the pool is not as warm as we would like, we turn on the spa and hang out in there. We don't do Disney every day though, so we do get our money's worth for the pool heat because we have 2-3 pool days.

we went this past Jan and it was cold..
Only 2 days of the whole trip you would consider swimming.
And without heated pool...no way.
If you want any chance to swim then I suggest "paying" for the heat.
But then again I wouldn't stay at a place where heat was extra.

You should be able to swim with pool heat most months of the year.

The only exception to this is if there is a cold front coming down from up north. When that happens the electric pool heaters cannot extract enough heat from the air to get pools up to normal temperature. However, having been to FL during one of those cold spells, you probably wouldn't want to swim (Its pretty chilly then).

Some homes have solar pool heaters - I understood that they used to not work very well during winter, but I have no direct experience of that. Also not sure if newer solar pool heaters are better with improved technology.

Use a pool blanket when you are not using the pool - it really helps keep the pool warm.
