Can you pay for the DDP in advance if staying on points or does it have to be at check-in?

Thanks

This is from the member website:

"Members can now enjoy the Disney Dining Plan when staying at a Disney Vacation Club Resort at the Walt Disney World® Resort on or after April 1 (this excludes Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort and Disney's Vero Beach Resort). Important Note: The Disney Dining Plan must be booked in advance of arrival and must be purchased for your entire travel party (ages 3 and over) for your entire length of stay. Call Member Services to add it to your reservation or to make a new reservation today"

but it doesn't say about when you pay for it.

Thanks for the post - I thought it had to be paid in advance but it must just be booked in advance.

Do you know why? Seems a little strange.

Because DVC Member Services does not currently have a way to apply payments to point reservations, whereas with cash ressies through CRO an account for that ressie is automatically created to accept room payments and deposits for each reservation. This is also more than likely the reason park tickets can not be pre-purchased as part of a room ressie.

Does there have to be a specific length of stay or park pass purchases to get it, or can you just get the DDP for a 3 night stay?

I have a split stay in July,
2 nights SSR then 7 night DCL after that back to SSR for another 5 nights.

I have booked the DDP for the first 2 nights, just to see how it goes.

It is not tied to any tickets

;)

I think the DDP is tied to the resort stay - we have a split stay also and I'm only planning to get it for our DVC part of the trip. I'll post if I have a problem, but I don't think I will. :thumbsup2 (wish this little guy had his fingers crossed!)

No, you must pay at check-in if you are staying on points or cash through DVC member services. DVC has no pre-pay accounts set up in their computer. Cash customers through Disney/CRO, because their cash rooms require a deposit, do have accounts set up automatically.

I asked MS this question because I've reserved a week at VWL (including DDP) with points for someone else, as a gift, so I didn't want the recipients to have to deal with the bill at check-in - I wanted to pay for the meals in advance. I was told that I may be able to call the resort directly and work something out but MS could not help with this. I never did call VWL - I decided to just provide the family with a bank / gift card to use to pay the bill at check-in.

Do you have to let them know in advance that you want it or do you just show up and say "hey, by the way, slap on that Dining Plan thing...I'm hungry"?

You must let Member Services know you want the dining plan, it must be linked to the ressie prior to arrival at the resort. The MS person I spoke with requested 48 hours prior notice.

Per MS you not only have to let them know ahead but the number as well. You can make NO changes upon check in or at the resort in any way. Whether this proves true in practice, we shall see.

Does anyone know if you can purchase the ddp for entire trip even if you splitting your stay?? We are spending three nights at the Boardwalk on our points, then two night at CR on cash, then four nights at OKW on our points. I'm assuming that we need two ddp's one for our stay at the BW and one for OKW and when we are at the CR we are on our own. Is this correct or can we get the ddp for the entire time?? Thanks!!

You could book the plan at CR with CRO with the purchase of a rack rate room and a 1 day ticket. They would all be separate.

You are on your own for the CR stay - unless you book a package for that stay. If you book a package to add the dining, you will need to buy at least a 1 day park ticket for each member of your party. There may also be a minimum number of nights for packages - it used to be 3, but I do not know if that requirement still exists.

Best wishes -

A lot of DDP questions in this thread are answered in much more detail than anyone could want on the Dining forum. Here's a link to the Dining Plan board http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=116

Go to the FAQ sticky at the top of the page and it will answer just about any question you might have.

Some of the rules, policies, restrictions may not make perfect sense in your particular situation, but the plan "is what it is." It's a take it or leave it option that works for many folks, and doesn't work for many folks.
