Paying for CRT

Booked a breakfast for September. I am wondering if they charge the credit card at the time of booking? We may change our hotel reservation to get free dining and I would use the credits instead of my charge card.

If you booked breakfast for September you would know they charged your credit card because you are required to pay up front. I hope you get free dining.

So they charge your card when you make the reservation even though we aren't going till September? If I get free dining or decide to cancel how to I get reimbursed?

Yes, you pay for CRT at time of booking. If you decide to cancel, you'll get a refund, typically within a week (although it could technically take much longer for the refund to come through, in my experience it never has).

I've never switched from cash to credits, so hopefully someone else can respond to that part of the question.

I booked my ADR for CRT back on April 6th and there has never been a charge on my card. I used a Disney visa, not sure if that made a difference? But I have a zero balance right now and a confirmed reservation.

If you then go to your ADR and ask to pay with DDP, they will refund your prepayment after you pay with credits.

Yes, CRT is one of the few meals you have to prepay, instead of just a c.c. guarantee. We have done it since our first time in 2008, and just did it again this past Dec. On my Disney Visa it comes through under " WDW Dine Tickets Lake Buena VI FL". Since it is already paid months in advance, and we don't like to use up two credits for it, we have just left it OOP and have not changed over to credits. I did have to change our dates from Nov. to Dec. last yr., and had to cancel, and the refund came through on the next billing cycle.

So now I'm confused. If that's the case, why haven't I been charged? It's been three weeks since I made my ADR and I just (literally) triple-checked both my reservation and my credit statement and there's definitely both a confirmed reservation and a zero balance on my disney visa.

No clue. Call Disney and ask.

I was starting to get uneasy about this and did just call... they confirmed the reservation and said since we are on DDP sometimes the system will not charge the credit card provided, instead presuming you are going to use dining credits for the meal. I was not planning on doing that though and they assured me the dining credits could be re-allocated as we wanted during our stay.

Good to know this! I was concerned about my credits being "held" if I ended up wanting to pay crt oop

Yes, same here. Paying OOP is going to sting, but with some of the other ADR we have, it just doesn't make sense mathematically to burn 2 TS credits.

When we booked ours, we had the option to pay upfront or use DDP credits (we had the DDP already on our reservation-that's the only way it works to pay using credits). You can use your credits when you go to pay and then they'll refund you or you can call and have them refund you to use DDP credits.

Glad you got it cleared up. We have not been on DDP yet when we made our ADRs in the past, so I guess that's why we always prepaid. Good to know for the future.
