Does anyone know how much it would be to upgrade from a standard room to a savannh view on arrival at AKL?

Depends on the season. You will be paying in US$ so go onto the US Disney site and run a quote for your exact dates in a standard room, then edit it for Savannah and see what the difference is.

The Mousesavers website lists all the resort prices. It looks like about $75-$100 per night depending on season (the lower the season the cheaper the upgrade).
The link to the 2011 rates for AKL is HERE

You are too good! That is much easier than the method I used. ;)

I asked the same question whilst at our first stay at AKL 3-4 years back and at that time Disney advised they will charge you the difference between what you paid for your room and the cost of the upgraded room.

This obviously seems sensible but if you booked via a travel agent and that agent got you a discounted rate for your room within your package, the differnce you will have to pay will be between the discounted rate and the standard rack rate for the upgrade, not the difference between the standard rack rates.

Things may have changed since then though.

Just don't forget to add the tax. Not a high percentage, but still.

Experiences seem to vary. Some get quoted the difference between what they paid and the price for the upgraded rooms. More seem to report having to pay the difference between rack rate (normal rate before discount of any kind) for the booked room and rack rate for the upgraded room.

DO NOT!!!! I repeat DO NOT!!!!!!! take this as a fact or given of a free upgrade. IT IS NOT! OK, we're clear on that one? :lmao: The AKL apparently doesn't have many standard view rooms. At certain times they'll oversell those, and upgrade some guests into savannah view rooms. Seems to happen more frequently than roomtype upgrades at some other resorts, but still very much luck of the draw.

At AKL I'ld book what I'ld want. For those that see AKL as a 'need savannah view'-resort to really enjoy the theming it is very not smart to play the upgrade-game. Even if you want to pay full price, availability might be zero. The longer the stay, the more difficult it'll get anyway.

I've done AKL with savannah view, well actually did AKL CL which comes with savannah view. Had my location request filled, overlooking the main savannah from a great spot. Loved the view from my bed (sitting up) and balcony. Having a munch out there and enjoying the animals. Having said that; the resort offers many places to enjoy the animals if you haven't got a savannah view room. The savannah view was a nice perk, absolutely. But if having to pick? I'ld do CL without savannah view before I'ld do savannah view without the CL.

Thanks, to upgrade the uk price is £1000 extra so I was just wondering it it would be cheaper on arrival but I don't think it would be much less.

Why dont you just enquire at reception when you get there? You never know as the OP said as you are perhaps willing to pay they may offer you the savannah view you want.I booked savannah view for 4 nights through DVC cost me £481 from a very kind uk renter this is only a studio though.First time here and cant wait. Out of all the hotels I have visited I find this one and the poly my favorites. Mind you beach club and ..........................:rotfl:

I've been thinking over the same dilemma!
VH wanted £750 extra for the savannah view for 11 nights in October 2011, as I've pushed my budget to the limit to stay at AKL I've decided against it although my daughter is animal crazy and we would really like a savannah view.
We arrive on my Mum's 65th birthday so I'm hoping that they will notice and maybe offer us one, if not I will enquire about a savannah view and prices as I'm hoping that I may have enough money saved by then to pay the extra!
I'm not expecting a view so if I get one it would be fantasic, if not I know that we will still love our stay there.
£750 is a lot of spends....:cool1:

Last year for us it would have been double the price for SV over standard, so I didn't pay the extra.

We were lucky and got an amazing upgrade, which I think is very common, but next time round we've booked savannah so I don't have to worry from now until then about what our view will be.

It's an amazing resort, and if I were you I'd keep my £1k and keep my fingers crossed.

Also, if I were to get one of the rooms with the high, wall balcony, or with smoke coming in I'd request a move, but even the standard views aren't awful views, and the upside is all they are super close to the lobby. :)

I agree I think it would be worth seeing what sort of room you get, as they might upgrade you free without you asking for it (but they won't if you do ask). If you get to the room and it isn't alo that great, then you could go down the route of asking for a better room.

I think this is what we will do. Considering we won't really spend to much time in the room I can't justify spending that amount of money on a view we won't be looking at half the time. I love the look of AKL and I really don't think I will be disappointed at all.

Hi there, just thought I'd add my two pennies worth, we've stayed at AKL two years in a row - the first we pushed the boat out & booked a SV & we weren't disappointed but last year we went with a standard & were fairly far away from the lobby however we had a good view & saw loads of animals. Dont worry too much about the location of your room as you can see the animals from lots of different areas & its such an amazing place to stay - it gives me goosebumps just thinking about the first time we arrived to check in.

I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Dee
