We are DVC members and had heard that you don't need to use all your points to pay for everyone in the room. is this true?

could we use our points to pay for my husband and i but pay cash for our children?

thanks.

Yes, you can do that. The rule is just that each person has to be paid in strictly points or cash.

Also, if you pay for some of it in cash, you have to pay ALL of it at the time of booking through DVC. As opposed to if you book through DCL, you can just put down a deposit and pay it off as you go. DVC requires you to pay the entire cash portion at the time of booking.

alikat99 is correct. If you pay a portion with cash and a portion with points, they will require that all cash be paid immediately. No payment program here. Plus DVC will charge you $75 to book with points.

We were working it out last night and if we rent out our points for the year before - current year and following year we can pay in full for our cruise, flight and still hold back some points to stay a few days after the cruise.

that is ofcourse based on this years cruise/air rates and the going rate for renting points.

that would actually work out the best for us.

You will find that most people on the DVC Board will agree with you. I have never rented out points. But most that have say it is pretty easy. You might go over there and ask about the ends and outs of renting, if you haven't done it before.
