I had just recently emailed Disney if there will ever be a dining plan that includes gratuity for extra charge and I still haven't received a reply. So instead of waiting I wanted to ask Disers if anyone had contacted Disney about this and what they had told them. Anyone know?

I like the idea, they could take and figure out per person what the average cost for gratuity would be and you could prepay it, assume an average of $30 in tippable meals per day, charge 18% which equals and additional $5.40 per night per person, this way it could all be taken care of before you ever arrive.

Another option would be to say that tips are included up until you reach say $10 per night in the cost of tips.

I know as it stands right now, I will be basing my tips off of the quality of the service and I know there will be a few that get 18%, but I am sure not all of them will deserve that much, that is my high end of tipping in the real world (of course there are exceptions and I will ocassionally go higher, for example in many cases if the server gave me something for free for some reason or another I will leave that additional ammount in the tip, as I was going to spend it anyway, unless of course it is free due to service concerns). 15% is the norm for me for normal service, 10% for acceptable, less for poorer service, if I recieve no service (for example at a buffet that I recieve no refills and the server never clears the dishes, that is the server doing 0% of 100% of his job), I leave a penny tip that way the server knows I didn't forget the tip but found the service to be completely unacceptable.

The DDP, DxDDP, Premium DDP and Platinum DDP all do NOT include the gratuity. As far as I know these are the only dining plans that Disney offers.

I just don't see them doing that.

We just got back about a week again from using the 2008 DDP for 10 nights. I thought that it was still valuable to have. Sure, we missed having the tip included, but it wasn't a huge burden to have to settle the tip at the end. We purchased Disney Gift Cards so that we could just use those to pay for any appetizers and gratuity. It worked out great. I don't think I ever tipped less than 20% - I thought we had very good service overall.

many folks are missing the reasons for taking the tip out in the first place. in addition to Disney making more bank on the deal... the server has to work for the tip, nothing is automatic, the customer is in control... this will improve the level of service. Bad Waitrons will not get tipped (paid) as well, they will either have to improve, move on, or just know they aren't making as much as their more proficient co-workers.

the few times I got bad service when the DDP included tip I just felt ripped off. I got bad service, and there was nothing I could do, other than tell a manager, and in one case the manager was a bigger looser that the lousy server.

While the DDP is not as big a value as it used to be, it is still a value if used proficiently.

It doesn't improve the quality of service or give the customer more control for a party of 6 or more. As it stands now on the DDP, if the quality of service I receive is poor, I still have to pay an 18% gratuity OOP. I think that's unacceptable. :headache:
