Will MS tell you at 7 months that your room is available to book as cash for the Friday & Saturday? or do you have to wait until it's closer to your arrival date to try. TIA

Joyce

You don't have to wait at all. I booked at 11 months and was able to reserve Fri and Sat for cash, and the rest of the nights on points.

It depends - sometimes there is availability for cash nights through MS as early as 11 months. No one on these boards really knows how DVC determines the number of rooms (if any) that MS will offer members for cash. Friday and Saturday nights are available more often than the other nights of the week (because many members avoid booking the weekend nights for points).

You just have to keep calling (if you can't get the cash nights the first time you ask) and hope you eventually get lucky.

Best wishes -

Thank you. I didn't know if MS waits closer to the dates to make sure the rooms are not booked on points. I was going to use points but can't bring myself to use 73 per night :scared1:

Sorry for the tag on, ignorant question, but...

Do members get a different cash price for weekends than a non member through CRO?

Anne

Last week I booked my Jan. 07 stay and was able to book cash nights for the weekend. I booked thru MS and got the DVC discount. Don't know if the price is different thru CRO.

An additional question on this topic:

If you already have the rooms booked on points can that be changed to cash?

Did you get the member discount? The discount isn't usually available 11 months out so if you didn't get it I would suggest calling again as your check-in date approaches to ask if it's become available. 25% is a nice discount when it's available.

Yes, subject availability. You should consider the effect on the points returned to your account (holding account, banking, etc.) if you book for cash then cancel those same days that were reserved on points.

I just checked weekend prices for Feb. 07. The cash discount price was about the same as buying points from someone for about $10 point.(If staying on a weekend) It seems that the cash discount is ok for the weekend, but it would be much cheaper to try and transfer points into your account for weekdays.

Examples:

Sat. Feb. 17: Studio at OKW $269 +tax or 27 points

Sat. Feb. 24: 1 Bedroom at BWV(Boardwalk View) $560 +tax or 60 points.
Studio at BWV (Boardwalk View) $322 +tax or 32 points

Actually, when I booked at 11 months I was given the member discount. But at 7 months, I called and switched the ressie to BCV. I was able to book the cash nights, but I lost the member discount. We decided to switch anyway, because my kids had their heart set on SAB.

True except it works out better for me to try for the discount. BWV & SSR are 73 points on the weekend cash is $435
