Paying cash for rooms

We may book a one bedroom villa at the Boardwalk Inn. The days we are looking at they have 3 nights available for points and 2 nights we would have to pay cash and/or waitlist it. Do cash rooms open up a certain amount of time before the date we want, like 30 days or 60 days?

If we can have a few nights for cash and a few night for points would we be in the same room the whole time?

I'm not totally sure I understand your question. I am assuming you are talking about booking a 1 bedroom at the BWV (Boardwalk Villas) for points and finding that you can only get 3 nights for points.

Yes, your options are to waitlist for the last two nights you want, book them for cash (subject to availability) and/or move to another available resort/room type for those nights.

The nights now available for cash will not become available for points. Those rooms come from a separate inventory. Most of the nights in the cash inventory were "traded" by members who used their points to book a cruise or selected other non-DVC options available for points. DVC must get those rented out for cash to pay for the DVC members' non-DVC selections.

I called DVC and they have all the one bedroom villa available at the Boardwalk, some with points and some for cash.

Now I have to make the decision of whether we should switch our original reservations at OKW to The Boardwalk.

Is there a place in the Boardwalk area that offers breakfast?

Are there easy places to have meals with kids or is there always a wait?

Is there a store there where we can buy waffles, coffee, half & half, etc.?

We always eat breakfast in the room unless we have reservations for a character breakfast. We usually have Garden Grocer deliver breakfast/lunch items, snacks, water, and beer. Screen Door general store on the boardwalk carries many items. You can check out the list on the DVC website.

As far as other places to eat, there are several places right on the boardwalk, across the lake at the BC/YC, and the Swan & Dolphin hotels.

Kouzzina has a sit down breakfast. Boardwalk bakery has to go breakfast - its small and counter servicey. Sometimes the Bellevue lounge has continental breakfast for sale.

There are lots of restaurants, but like much of Disney dining, the sit down places are often booked. The places that don't take reservations sometimes have a wait. But in addition to the Boardwalk restaurants, the Swan and Dolphin and Yacht and Beach Club are within walking distance - so you have everything from Blue Zoo to Hurricane Hannahs to pick from. Counter service at Boardwalk is the Boardwalk Bakery and some stands on the Boardwalk. And if you have hoppers - you are ten minutes from the Fish and Chip Shop in England.

The Screen Door has groceries.

Yes. You can get fresh fruit and pastries at the BellVue Lounge. The newly expanded Boardwalk Bakery has several breakfast options. If you want a sit down meal, Kouzzina is right next to the Boardwalk Bakery or you can walk over to the Swan or Dolphin. The Swan even has a character breakfast.

You'll probably need an ADR for Kouzizina but the other places are either QS or seldom have a wait (Swan/Dolphin restaurants). The Big River Grille and ESPN are also on the Boardwalk, but there may be a wait (or not). You could easily boat or walk over to the BC or YC to take advantage of their restaurants, too.

Yes. The Boardwalk General Store has all of those items and more.
