I know that if there are not any rooms for your stay you can ask about paying cash for a room. I have a friend that wanted to rent points for his family in October, but there are no rooms the size he needs. Can I call and pay cash for a room and put in his name or is that only good for me?

Thanks

well...couple of things.
As a DVC member, you could make a reservation via MS and pay the rack price (ouch!). You might be able to get a DVC member discounted cash price (25% off rack -IF available). Perhaps the better deal in this case would be for your friend to research if there's a public code, or Annual pass discount that could be significantly better than even the 25% off.

HTH

editited to add: I could be mistaken, but I almost think in the case of a member discounted room the owner is supposed to be an occupant - but I'm unclear on that.

The DVC Cash discount is only for use by DVC Members. Your friend will do much better to book his room via CRO possibly using various discounts such as AP discount or free dining. I would direct him to visit our Resorts Board here on the DIS..

This is what I thought, but I knew someone here would know for sure. He does not have an AP and we are waiting for news on Free Dining. He is going in October. His wife died 3 years ago and he has 2 boys 5 and 8. When she was alive we discussed disney numerous times. When he called me the other day he told me that she told him at one time if we ever go H needs to plan our trip! This is bittersweet! Just trying to get together a great trip for them. Thanks!

If they want to book DVC resort with rented points find a member who wants to make a points transfer to rent from; they will transfer the points to your membership account and then you can make and handle the reservation for your friends with Member Services just as you would with your own points. Just be sure the points will be valid for use during the dates of their trip and most important get enough points transferred over because you are allowed only 1 transfer per use year so you don't want to find that you're short on the amount of points that would be needed after the transfer has taken place.

Good luck & you're a good friend trying to assist that family :goodvibes

When I called there was nothing consecutive...that is why I thought about a cash room. He is taking another family member with them so they would need a 1 bedroom for privacy sake for the other member...Will look at other options...just wanted to get the most bang for their buck!
