Paying cash and dining plan credits - how does it work?

My husband and I and my in-laws are heading to WDW at the end of the month for 4 days. We are all on the dining plan.

The first night we are eating at Boma's - my husband's friend recently moved to Orlando and he is meeting us that night for dinner. He is not on the dining plan.

I do not want to use one of our credits to pay for the friend because the meal is only $25 and the other PS for dinner we have that week are much more expensive then $25 - so we don't want to have to pay for one of those meals and would rather just pay for the friend at Boma.

So how does that work -- do we tell the waitress when we sit down that it is 4 dining plans and one cash and then when the bill comes give her cash for one meal?

How do we make sure that the 5th meal was not taken off on of our cards for the dining plan?

Also - along that same topic -- my inlaws are in another room and have their own package so I guess when we pay for dinners together - we really need to give the waitress 2 cards (2 dinners off each)?

Thanks
Nicole

I was wanting to know the same thing except I was also wondering how it worked when you order something not covered in the dining plan...example...we are going to Coral Reef...and I know our kids will want the drink with the glowing blue cube....do we pay cash for it...or is it a separate ticket?? Thanks!

I hope you don't mind me asking on your post.

Just ask for a separate check for your friend.

And you should be able to just give the 2 cards, unless they make changes (where you'd need all the cards).

I don't think I've had to add anything else when on the dining plan, but your bill (with glow cubes) should come with the itemized total and how much you owe.

We just got back on saturday, and had no problems paying out of pocket for some things, like that extra appetizer we wanted or the alcoholic drinks we ordered. We just told the waiter/waitress to put the extra stuff on a separate bill. They usually knew to do it when we told them we were on the dining plan.
