Paying balance before arrival?

Which do you prefer, paying the balance of your room when you get there, or before you leave? My DBF wants to pay our entire remaining balance before we arrive at the end of May... but if we needed to cancel for some reason (which would not happen!!), could we get back the full amount that we paid?

When I booked through CR a few months back they told me I could cancel up to 6 days before w/o penalty. With less then 6 days notice I would be charged one night's rate.

So I paid mine off as soon as I booked the airfare, would rather do it that way and have more spending money in my pocket when I get there.
