Paying at table meals with a DGC

If we do a table meal, can I pay for the meal with a DGC and then put the tip on a CC?

I would do it all on the DGC, but I was advised in a FB group that there is a delay in them removing the tip from the GC, which could cause issues with the real balance and CM getting paid

On our last trip, we charged to the room and paid everything off every night in Disney GC, and there was never a delay in the balance reflecting correctly. I haven't heard anything like what you are describing.

Have not heard of this problem. We pay everything with DGC that we buy at BJs for discount. FYI. DGC has a website and you can constantly move funds around. It is fabulous!!!!

On my last 2 trips, I wasn't able to add the tip on the gift card. But I like Siren's suggestion of charging to the room and paying it with gift cards at the end of each day.

We really do not want to charge to the room. Various reasons, but largely because my wife shops a lot and it is too much to reconcile.

Main thing I want to know is can I put a tip only on a credit card?

I have gift cards also. Was wondering why would you have to pay at the end of each day if you charge restaurants to the room. Couldn’t it just be paid using GCs at the end of the trip?

So I asked my husband who has worked FOH in restaurant for 20 years and he said it really depends on the POS system the restaurant uses, but he does not believe that most POS systems will allow you to run a separate credit card just for the tip, because there wouldn't be a way to get a separate slip for the credit card if the gift card covered the full amount of the check. Being the guy he is, he thought up a workaround, which would be to have the server charge a tiny amount of the check on a credit card (like 10 cents or something nominal) and the rest on the gift card - that would ensure that the server would get two slips (one for the GC and one for the credit card). Then you could put your tip on the slip for the CC.

Not sure that you could reasonably get a Disney server to do something like that, so the other option would be to pay tips in cash.

OP said his wife shops a lot, so they’re charging more than restaurants to the room. She may be shopping enough that it causes a mid-trip charge on the card, so it wouldn’t work to wait until the end to pay with the gift cards.

No, there would have to be something to charge in order for you to have something to tip for. So, maybe the soft drink needs to be on the credit card charge so you can tip on that.

You can pay for the tips only from the DDP on a credit card so I don't know why you wouldn't be able to to it after paying for the meal with a GC.

When I want to tip on a credit card, I have restaurants charge a dollar to the credit card.

Thanks again, everybody. I decided to apply for the Cap One Savor card that gives 3% back on dining. I am using my DCGs for souvenirs, experiences and snacks, but for all dining we will use the Savor card.
