paying all week with room key???

We always with as little cash as possible....about 400 for tips and stuff. We always charge everything to the room (including limo transfers) everywhere we go, not just WDW and pay with an Amex Card at check out. This works for us. First of all, AmEx is a charge card, not a credit card, so the full amount is due monthly. We do not believe in paying interest, and there is no charge limit. It is better than going to the bank and traveling with cash or getting to an ATM and trying to figure how much you need. One charge, one bill due in 30 days no interest....and you get points...which come in very handy...we use them for airfare!

I look at it this way, if you gotta pay for it anyway, might as well get something out of it. We rarely pay for airfare anymore ans we take 8 vacations a year. It works for us!

We always use the room key to charge everything. They usually hang the bill on your door the night before checkout. We look it over to make sure there are no erroneous charges. To be perfectly honest, I don't think we've ever had a problem. I would imagine if they did charge in error, they'd take it right off.

Now is that for the entire stay or is the limit on per day. I was thinking that the limit was per day and that you had to call the front desk to authorize anything above the per day limit.

That is your resort ID limit. It's not per day or for your stay.

For example if you are staying at a Value and after three days, you bump up on the $500 limit. Your resort ID purchase will be denied. In most cases the cashier will call your resort, and put you on the line. They will tell you that you have reached your resort ID limit. At that point you tell them to charge it to the credit card you have on file. Instantly, you have another $500 on your resort ID.

If you don't want that amount charged to your credit card, then you have wait until you can actually go back to your resort and pay that amount with cash or travelers checks before your resort ID charging is available again

It really depends on what kind of budget person you are. We use travellers checks, and budget 200.00 a day, THATS IT. When its gone, its gone. No having to save receipts and check them, no writing down anything. No standing in line with guest services either. Also, we can't stand to be behind the people having to sign for these darn KTTW cards, it takes up so much unnecessary time (and we stay on property, so we have these cards, just don't charge on them). Anyway, just my way of keeping track of money.

Oh! And the best part! A 0.00 balance on your check out day. :thumbsup2

that is exactly right. Also keep in mind your room charges also include anything you may have pre-ordered to have in your room, like chocolates, gift baskets etc...these items are not charged until they are actually delivered.

Several other reasons it's better to use the resort ID over cash, traveler's checks, or your personal credit card.

1: Cash, if it's lost, it's lost, period.

2: Traveler's checks or your personal credit card, if lost usually takes a MINIMUM of 24 hours to replace, sometimes longer with most credit cards. If your resort ID is lost, it can be cancelled and replaced immediately.

3: Using the resort ID instead of your credit card around the resort keeps identity theft down. Your own credit card is flashed only once at your resort instead of all over property. The fewer people that see your card, the better. (I'm talking about CMs, AND guests looking over your shoulder).

By using your key it does keep theft down. Use your key bring a few dollars and keep the rest in your room safe. Also thankfully then CM's are sticklers about your card being signed. If it is NOT signed and you go to buy something they will not allow the charge without a photo ID. So make sure you sign your card as soon as you check in. They also look at the signatures to make sure they match, which is a good thing.

We stay on property, use our room card for charging, and have never gone to guest services for anything other than check-in.They hang the bill with a $0 balance on your doorknob the day of your departure. :)
As for waiting for people to sign, how about making change for those travelers checks. Plus the money is fithy, sometimes wet(sweaty) and may make it to your hand via a "gentleman's" club or other unsavory venue. Who knows what germs/filth are on your bills? I carry my own pen to sign as well. People from all over the world are here for fun,but vaccinations are not always available in all parts of the world. Just keeping safe :thumbsup2

If we have 3 cards for our room, one for me, one for DH and one for DS, can we have the charging privileges just on the adult cards?

:offtopic: BTW--I find the idea of different charging limits at the different level of hotels a bit elitist and offensive..... :sad2: . If I had to guess I'd say there are probably plenty of people overextending themselves at a deluxe and a good number of wealthy, but "careful" spenders over at the value resorts. :confused3

Yes, you can have charging priveledges only on the adult cards. As a matter of fact I believe it is default to for kids cards to NOT have charging priveledges, you have to request it for your kids.

We have always used the resort ID except for our first trip that was offsite.

For us, its really the easiest way. I know when we get to our limit, they charge the card and then we get a larger limit again. We usually cary a back-up CC with us in case we are eating dinner and are at our limit and get declined. I will have to find out about calling the resort and having them charge while we are there. That's a great idea.

They always ask us if we want the kids cards to have charging priveledges.
