Pay to get in?

We have never gotten a rental car from the airport to WDW. I know there are tolls and you pay for parking at the resort, but do you pay to get into WDW? The Town Car usually just waves at the person in the booth who waves back. But there are cars lined up to get in like you see at toll booths along the highway so I'm not sure what's going on. Trying to decide if it's better pricewise to rent and pay the extra fees or just continue getting a Town Car. TIA

Your sig indicates that you'll be at Shades of Green in December. I'm not sure how parking works there. If you are staying at a Disney owned resort, you don't pay to park at your resort, and you also don't pay to park at the parks.

Getting into "WDW"...do you mean each individual park? If you are staying offsite (and I don't know how it works with SOG, themepark-parking-wise) and do not have an AP, you pay to park at a themepark. If you have an AP you show it and you don't pay. If you are onsite you scan your MB and don't pay. But it does require stopping at the booths.

That's because they know the driver is just dropping you off.

There is a per-day charge for parking at Shades of Green. The last time we stayed there I believe it was $5 per day.

SOG has a daily parking fee but is considered to be on property. When we go with the driver, we go in thru the line of booths for the Magic Kingdom just like you do if staying at the Contemporary, Poly, Wilderness Lodge or Grand Floridian. I don't want to park at the parks, only get in to get to the resort. We have a couple of days scheduled to go to Universal Studios so I want to see if we have to pay each time we go back and forth from there as well as from the airport. I'm sorry if I'm not making sense. It makes sense in my head and then doesn't when I ask about it.

I just checked, and if you have a car you don't pay at WDW going to/from Shades of Green. However, you will pay the SOG daily parking fee, and if you drive to the WDW theme parks, you do have to pay to park in those lots (keep your receipt so you only pay the theme park parking fee once per day).

Thank you so much, wdwrich! Where did you find that info? I've been looking and looking.

I think the confusing thing was that you stated to get into WDW. I hope that I can actually answer what you are asking.

Getting to resorts via TTC parking booths:

As you approach the booths stay to the right, but not the very right lane, as that is for buses. When you get to the booth, tell the CM that you are going to SOG. They will then send you through without paying. Follow the road on the right, not going to the parking lots on the left like everyone else. Then follow the signs to SOG. You will not have to pay at the parking booth to get to SOG. (See image below from Google view. I circled the booths you should try to use to avoid going across traffic.)Google Map TTC Booth.jpg google below.)

Shades of Green does have a fairly decent bus service to all the parks. The drop off and pick up locations are with the charter buses (or they were when I drove) so no direct service to MK, you will go to the TTC but you will go directly to the other parks.
