Can somebody please explain to me what paypal is and how it works. Where can I sign-up. HELP!

Paypal is a means of paying for things online. It is owned by ebay. You create an account with your checking and credit card and when you buy something online you can pay someone who also has a paypal account.

As long as you keep your password to yourself, paypal can be very safe. But you should NEVER give out paypal passwords to anyone. Guard it like you would guard your credit card numbers. Just to be on the safe side, my paypal is linked to a checking account that is seperate from our family joint checking.

Go to www.paypal.com to sign up.

Hope that this helps.

I have seen people post this as a way to pay. I don't know anyone personally who has used it.

I know at least one person does! I can't remember thier username but it is who I rented points from for 2002 trip where we joined DVC! I could look it up I am sure if you really wanted to know.

That is the whole reason I got a PayPal account so I could pay them using CreditCard. Now I use it to get money to cover cost of tape and shipping on video tapes I send out of Disney shows from the Travel channel.

I used paypal to have points transferred into my account from a renter. It allowed me to pay by credit card and is an instant transaction.

Paypal works fine, I just ask people to pay the extra fees if they want to use it.

There should be no fees if you are paying with a checking account. One of the beautiful things about paypal is the free sending of money to anyone with an email address. I paid for my Illuminations cruise this way and there was no charge to either me or the receiving party.

Gail, that's true only if the sendier is usind a credit card and the receiver has a basic account. One can't receive credit card payments in a basic account. Here's a quote from their fees page.

Personal Accounts are free, but cannot accept credit card payments. Premier and Business Accounts are charged either the Standard or Merchant rate based on volume. All Premier and Business Accounts start at the Standard Rate until they qualify for the Merchant Rate.
