Pay more for non-garden view?

I booked a few rooms with my code that expired last night (lucky too, because the guy picked up at 9:56 EST and they close at 10,) one of which was a CR Garden View. After looking for pics I found out that these are detached from the main building. I can't believe I did not know this before, but I didn't. So, now I am torn between keeping my reservation, changing it to a MK view, cancelling with this code and booking some sort of standard room with the current % off public code or hoping for a new PIN (and keeping what I have until I get one.) The reservation system is down, so I can't check yet. Of course, I need to decide soon or risk not being able to get a reservation at all.

Truth be told, I personally don't even want to stay at CR (I'd rather stay at WL, GF or Poly,) but DD7 really liked it and I want to give her a few nights there for her b-day. Has anyone stayed in a Garden view? Was it a long walk to the monorail? How far from the path to MK. I see they are close to a pool, which is nice, but I think I'd still rather be in the mail building and I don't think it will be the same for DD if it is not in the mail building.

It is not a long walk. The Wing building is right next to the pool, connected to main tower by a covered walk. It is much closer to the lobby than some buildings at POly or other Deluxe. We did a week MK view last year. It was nice, but this year I did not feel the need to pay $700 extra for it and the kids didn't care. I am actually looking forward to trying the wing, being right next to pool, only having one escalator (no elevator) to the main concourse and hopefully having a patio on the first floor. If the tower and view are very important, then change it. For me, been there done that, don't care much . We love CR for its atmosphere and LOCATION and being in garden wing doesn't change that.

The wing rooms are identical in size and decor to those in the main building and as mentioned by a previous poster the walk to lobby is quick, plus you can cut across the grounds to get to the bus stop or to hit the walkway to the MK. We have been staying at the CR for over 10 years now, since our girls were in strollers and love it. Our last few stays have been in the tower and truly the onllly difference is the wing rooms (with the exception of ground floor ones) do not have a balcony. Ground floor rooms have a patio with table and chairs, upper floor rooms have a slider with a rail but no step out. Our last stay was in May 2010 in a tower club 1 bedroom suite, hard to top that but it was an upgrade from our Atrium Club booking. We love the CR, lots to do there, but we also adore the GF and YC as well.

Early in our vacations, in the late 70's and 80's, we always stayed at the CR, north garden wing (now long gone and sadly missed). We never wanted to stay in the A-frame....my father would never stay in a resort over 4 floors because firetrucks couldn't reach them (weird but that's how they thought back then) We enjoyed being off from the main building, more serene, quiet and liked the little walk to get to the main building....they used to have a huge game room and food court on the bottom floor and taking the escalators up to the 4th floor was fun......it's changed to much in the years and we have moved on but would welcome a return trip to the south garden wing if a good price or code came out....we're WL fans now, over 10+ stays there but always check the prices of CR when processing a trip........

Since you already have your reservation booked with your pin code, you can make changes and still retain your code. You may have to ask for Guest Services to be able to make the change as many CMs at CRO do not know how to find rooms under expired pins, but it can be done. You just had to get the initial reservation booked by the expiration date. Changes can continue to be made after that expiration date.

Well, if it was me, I would save the money and stay in the wing. We have never stayed at CR, (like you, I have no desire to and much prefer the other resorts you mentioned, lol) but we stayed at BLT on a cash reservation and loved it. We, too, had to walk from BLT to the CR A-frame for the monorail and all the eats, but this was no problem in the grand scheme of things. And walking to/from MK... :cloud9: well, it is such a wonderful perk, it makes up for everything else that might not be so nice, since all resorts have their annoying aspects, lol.

My DGS would like to stay in the A-frame some day, but I just can't see spending that kind of money when we are not in the room that often. I'd rather spend it elsewhere, like a meal in the castle or on a family photo, etc. I'd go back to BLT in a heartbeat, though. I think kids don't take the resorts as seriously as we do, especially once they're down there. :) Have fun! tink
